I started using Serif DrawPlus at version 5 (X5) and was really lucky to stumble upon this little known software. I was looking for a vector capable drawing software and tried just about everything. Just in case your unfamiliar with the term, vector drawing software uses math/calculations to create lines and color. Think of it as 'digital drawing'. It's counterpart would be 'raster' drawing, which you can think of as 'analogue drawing'. The difference is apparent when you try to resize a drawing. Raster drawings loose detail the larger they are displayed/printed and jumble detail the more you shrink them whereas vector drawings loose no detail. In our digital world where your work may be displayed on small LED's, large Blu-Ray screens, ipads, standard computer monitors, posters, t-shirts and everything in-between, it's hard to argue against the value of vector based drawing programs.

Mind you, there are some great raster programs out there- my favorite being Sketchbook, but vector is a must for any illustrator or digital artist. As it turns out, there aren't many contenders on the vector drawing battlefield because one company seems to hold a death-grip on the industry- Adobe. Adobe Illustrator may be considered the standard for vector drawing programs and I'm not going to argue against it's capability. It will do any and everything you ask of it. There are a couple of reasons I don't reach for it, though, and a few reasons that pushed me toward Serif DrawPlus as my go to drawing software.

Adobe Illustrator (AI) is complex, sometimes needlessly so. You CAN become very proficient with it but that proficiency will take a bit of time as you are trained in the Adobe interface way of thinking.Read more ›

I have been using Serif softwares for almost ten years. It started with a flyer in the mail, I placed my first order, and ever since then I get the regular phone call at least once a year with a cute British accent asking me whether I wish to upgrade...
The vector and bitware softwares (Draw Plus and Photo Plus) as well as the publishing software PagePlus are truly outstanding. (I have to say that as a direct Serif customer I have not been paying the prices I see here...Buying their entire bundle is the best deal).
So why do I think they are a great deal? I compare them with the other products mainstream products out there.
For example Corel Draw for vector based graphics, which I used until about version 5 until I encountered Serif. Look up the Corel price yourselves.
For my needs, DrawPlus does the job at a fraction of the cost. Same goes for PhotoPlus when you compare it to Adobe Photoshop (Elements). As far as the desktop publishing product PagePlus is concerned, I am perfectly happy as well. Admittedly, I can only compare it to some really old products I have used in the past, and I am not a power user of this kind of software, but the mainstream competitors cost several hundred bucks.
The only one I have stopped upgrading is their movie SW because I am a devout Sony Vegas fan. And as complicated as video softwares are, I am little inclined to huff and puff on a steep learning curve for another video editing SW.
Some have mentioned negatively the registration process. To me, that is a truly a minor inconvenient. OK. once you are in their database, you'll get their regular marketing emails. But even these have nice surprises at times like the FluidMask (image extraction) or PC Protection SW offers at a great discount.

I bought this from Amazon for 80.00 plus. After I got it I saw they had a website. Went there, got their phone number and called them because I was having trouble registering the product . Turns out I could have gotten it for 39.00 with free shipping and the manual as well. I generally buy tons of stuff from Amazon because I think they are great but this time because I wasn't paying attention, I got duped and I did it to myself. Now about the product. I love it and I can export in svg format which I need to digitize embroideries. I am just learning and needed this so I could go farther. It has fantastic features which I am learning. I recommend getting the manual. It is helping me. Serif also sells a software product called Serif CraftArtist 2 which you can also buy on their website. It's great for drawing as well as scrapbooking and cardmaking of which you can also purchase a manual for that program. I suggest you call them to order and not off their website because they can answer your questions and it maybe to you benefit to do so.

This is VERY comparable to CorelDraw and Illustrator, it doesn't have a few of the capabilities but I have found after using it for a few weeks that there are ways around some of the lack-of-options I first thought it had. For example, if you wanted to powerclip something, you can do this here by using the "stencil" option, its the same effect. It will open PDF files and you can edit them, and if you publish your Serif DrawPlus file to a pdf, it will open in CorelDraw/Illustrator as if you had created it there. I highly recommend!
