This is based on my use with it for DJ applications.
I bought this to use with my Stanton SCS.4DJ and my Vestax VCI-380 DJ controllers. I tried this option first because it's more cost effective than buying individual rack mounts for multiple controllers. It works incredibly well and is very sturdy without any sagging/drooping because of the heavy gauge steel. It also serves nicely as a laptop shelf for you guys who are using just a laptop and sound card only.

Mounted, it provides a flat surface so you an place things on it with slick surfaces, and not worry about them sliding down in your case (cell phones, pens, etc...). Also, since it has a carpeted surface, it provides som scratch protection to your gear, but best of all, allows you to apply some Velcro to the bottom of you gear so that it stays put if you're doing a more permanent mount (this shelf does not have universal mount holes in the shelf). Lastly, because of the flat surface, my front panel knobs and headphone ports are perfectly positioned where I an get to them without having to try and reach down inside the case. Also, on the rear of the controller, the inputs/outputs actually sit lower than normal so your connections are out of the way if you've got an EQ (a light controller in my case) or something mounted above.

It's made from some heavy steel and has rack mount holes in each corner of the ears. The reason that I didn't give it 5 stars, is because it only has those 4 holes. They didn't line up very accurately with the holes on my rails and I didn't want to damage my threads of my screws or my rails, so I'm only able to mount it with 3 screws (my case is an SKB btw). It's possible that I just got a bad one from the factory, but that's the one I'm reviewing. You may not have the same experience.

Rather than using brackets, I bought this to put my A&H mixer on the slant top rack. Velcro provides enough friction to keep the mixer in place (there is a still some angle left on Road Ready rack). My disappointment was that the screw holes didn't match on the rack rails! There are 2 holes each on four corners of the shelf, but if you align one pair, neither of the rest of three pairs didn't match up. So I ended up securing this shelf with 2 screws only. I know this sits on top of the rack so it is less critical than regular rack equipment with vertical rails but...

Solid shelf. Used it for my rack which slants on the top. Put my Traktor S2 in here and it fits perfectly. Solid construction and 2 holes on each of the 4 corners. Loop material on bottom so you only need to attach the hooks on your mixer or other device.

It does exactly what I intended it to do. Its pretty heavy duty and the velcro its wrapped in seems like its attached really well. Be aware however skb seems to use odd angles for the mixer top cases, so in my road ready case sitting on the top its slighty angled forward. I use it to support a laptop so that makes it kind of nice for me but be aware, since that may not be ideal for some situations

Another DJ purchase for my SKB case. It aligns to the top of my 1SKB-84DJ DJ Shuttle just fine with no really hard work or anything. It's been a bit since I applied it, but I don't believe it came with screws. Then again, the DJ Shuttle had plenty of screws to use, so I doubt that really even phased me.

The shelf itself is pretty nice. Like I said, it does what it does. My laptop sits on it just fine without sliding down. I even like the fact that it doesn't completely close on the top so I can feed cables through (laptop adapter, iPhone charging cable, etc). No complaints there.

Docked it one star due to the fact that it looks like one edge of the velcro on the shelf is already coming off. Seems like a poor job when applying it, but I'm sure I can fix it myself. That or just not make it worse by pecking at it.
