Arrived in new condition and is everything advertised and expected from the Bastien series, which starts with "Piano for the Young Beginner" (Primer A and B), then advances to Level 1 (four books), Level 2 (4 books). Level 3 develops a deeper understanding of music. Some songs taught in lower levels are repeated by containing a longer or more difficult version of the song, so it's easy to build on lower level foundations, yet also challenging. The four books work together to build and strengthen skills learned in Primer, Level 1 and Level 2. Bastien also has other books that further enhance one's skills, including a Line-A-Day Sight Reading book. My kids really enjoy learning the piano and feel a sense of accomplishment through this series.

Our piano teachers likes the Bastien books so these are what we bought. I can't really compare them to many other books since these are all we've used but my girls are learning to play the piano so they must be doing something right! I will say though, that the songs are really weird. Many have no point to them & are just trying to teach a skill. I hate songs like that & so do my girls.

Best series for beginners! My students enjoy Bastien a lot. I like this series over Faber and Alfreds. Bastien goes about introducing music to beginning students in more rounded and intuitive way. My students definitely move a lot quicker thru Bastien material than Alfreds and Faber. I don't feel that's because it's easier - but it builds up itself better, preparing students for what is coming.

Good method. Very chord oriented. Covers minor keys and towards the end- covers the circle of flats and all the associated flat keys- pretty much one key per spread. It can be difficult for a student to master the key before turning the page and then having to deal with the next level key. Good for a quick learning and capable student who has adult or adolescent sized sized hands.
