I've used the lightweight Maxell over-the-head head buds for years. I recently ordered replacements (for work and home) and the headphones shipped to me had a metal headband instead of the familiar lightweight plastic.

Okay-- so the item wasn't as pictured. It happens. But the headphones I recieved were clearly conceptualized in a special hell for headphone wearers.

The metal headband is WAY too big for my head-- and yet, the diameter is way too tight, pinching the bud into my ears. The result? When I sit still, I have a giant metal halo above my head. And every time I move, the band slips off my head. The buds act like angry little hinges in my ears. The band swings all the way over my face and rests under my chin, giving me what looks like a headphone beard. It's so annoying/distracting. AND unattractive.

I wrestled with these headphones for like an hour, the way a man might wrestle a rhino--like my life was on the line! I bent the metal into a better shape. Or so I thought. Now, I have a mis-shapen halo AND pinchy earbuds at the SAME TIME.

I ordered two pairs of these before I realized they were actually torture devices. So I repurposed them! Tah-da! I keep them in the bottom drawer of my desk at work. They remind me no matter how busy my day is--or how hard I'm working... at least I'm not wearing those crappy headphones. And I feel much, much better.

First world problems, man. I tell ya.

I'm another one of the many fans of the Sony mdr-w08 looking for a replacement model because apparently sony discontinued that model. The hb-202 is not even close. The one I received was differant from the one pictured. It had a stainless steel headband and the speakers pointed directly into the ears, not the side fire style of the Sony model. When ever the headband is moved or makes contact with anything the sound is transmitted to the ear. Very annoying. The audio is terrible. Bass is nonexistent. They are painful in the ears. Bottom line....... In to the garbage. Glad they were under $10.

I love these. And if you like this vertical design, I recommend buying a few while you still can. (The design has yielded favor to hip-hop styles and earbuds, so Maxell seems to be discontinuing this model. It's disappeared from all the drugstores where I used to see it.)

Face it: no mfr.'s compact headphones/earbuds last very long under normal use. A cord gets tugged once too many, you permanently lose one channel or the other, and then you can't access the connections to re-solder them.

At least with these Maxell's, you minimize your upfront investment. They're comfortable and sound almost as good as the corresponding Sony models, but they cost only 1/2 or 1/3 the price. Maxell's cord is also a foot longer than Sony's (4' instead of 3'), which makes a surprising difference in convenience if you're plugging them into a laptop or into desktop computer speakers.

If I could give this 0 stars, better yet -5 stars, I would. These are NOT the head buds in the picture, even though they have the same model#. For several years, these were the only head buds I found that felt comfortable in my ears and for the price, did not mind they only lasted a few months a pair.

What was Maxell thinking when they redesigned these? The new buds hurt my ears, in part because the band is so tight it pushes them into my ears, so I can't wear the new design. Maxell, you lost at least 1 loyal customer when you changed these!

These headphones are so bad. The sound is awful.
1) These are certainly not the 20-22k Hz frequence that they claim.
2) The band is designed so poorly, the buds won't even stay in my ears.

I love cheap headphones, but this is seriously the worst pair of headphones I've owned in my entire life.

I went to return them to Amazon, and Amazon simply gave me my money back. They didn't even want me to send the headphones back. I really wish I could send them back, and say, take them!

I ordered these thinking I was getting the item pictured, which I already owned and loved, but could no longer find in the store where I originally had purchased them. I have never been a fan of earbuds, as I always found them to be uncomfortable, but the pair I owned like the one in the picture was the only pair I ever found that I liked. I just ordered and received two pairs of these thinking I would be getting ones just like the picture, but was disappointed when I opened them up and they were not the same. Not only that, but the newer style that I received is too big for my head when on the smallest adjustment setting, so I won't even be able to use them, since they just fall off me. I suppose one of my friends will get them, since they don't fit me. *Sigh* Extremely disappointed in this purchase!

These things are okay to sit around and listen to alone, but while you're active, these things will fall apart. First the cushions on the buds will fall off and vanish forever, and if you have a big head like I do, they will fall from their band, causing frequent reattachment. If you're looking cheap, then try them out, but otherwise you should look elsewhere.

This was supposed to be a 2 star review, BTW.

EDIT: One of the speakers died yesterday, so I tossed them in the trash. With that, the search for the perfect headphones continues...
