These 3D glasses are great! They are almost as light as the passive glasses and I have yet to notice any flicker. They are only designed to work with the KDL-55W900A TV which is the only "active 3D" model in the line up this year (2013). They are using radio frequency signals to transmit/receive the sync signal instead of infrared signals as was the case on all the previous model years of Sony 3D TVs. Although these glasses cost more than the passive ones, you get a clearer, crisper 3D image because both eyes get Full HD resolution this way vs. half the resolution with passive 3D (excluding 4K Ultra HD TVs). Both versions of 3D look really good this year though. Before leaving a bad review, it is important to note, as some comments have indicated, that these are not the replacement for the TDG BR250 nor the TDG BR750 glasses and will not work/sync with previous model years of Sony 3D TVs. I would have preferred a rechargeable battery option vs. replaceable battery but perhaps it helps to make it a lighter weight.

After reading other reviews of these glasses and how some people have said they are "ONLY for the Sony KDL series" televisions (and that the product also specifies "for Sony KDL-XXXXX" model in the name/product description) I was worried about whether they would work with my Sony XBR-55X850C. I have read comments from other people that the glasses worked with their XBR-55X850C (and other Sony XBR models), so I decided to take a risk and buy these glasses. I am so happy that I did.

So I am writing this review to echo what I have seen from those other reviews and to reassure anyone who has an Sony XBR series TV that these should work for you. These glasses definitely work for me with my Sony XBR-55X850C.

Thankfully, I have not had any issues in trying to pair the glasses (I ordered two pair) with the TV. During the pairing process there is a message that displays when 3D content is being displayed on the TV, and then another message comes up informing users when the glasses have been successfully paired with the TV. I always make sure that there is 3D content being displayed on the TV before pairing the glasses with the TV, as I have read that there may be some issues trying to pair the TV with the glasses when there is no 3D content being displayed on the TV.

The glasses themselves are fairly comfortable, the nose piece is removable, and I have read that people have lost them, so I am careful when using, removing, and storing the glasses when done viewing. I have also read that there are no replacement nose pieces available for purchase.

The 3D image from these glasses using them on my XBR-55X850C is fantastic. I would dare to say perfect, granted I have only viewed 3D content on 3D Blu-ray discs, and cannot offer information about the 3D experience with any broadcast content. I highly recommend these glasses to anyone looking for a quality 3D experience.

Sony TDG-BT500A glasses work with the new 4k ultra HD sets - I have the 55inch model XBR-55X900A. The glasses work fine, its just hard to turn them off so the battery doesn't drain. Don't listen to the negative reviews If one does not research correctly. One really can't blame the glasses if purchased for the wrong model Set. Have been using for 1 month now with the XBR-55X900A no issues other than the off position is hard to tell. watched about 10 3d movies, they look great on the new 4k ultra HD tv's. My only thing would be the view is better at night, during the day you can slightly tell the shuttering happening. At night i never notice this. Recommend watching films in dark room in 3d with this setup.

I wonder how much of the quality of the 3D viewing is affected by the specifications of the TV.

For the past few years I've used the older KDL-EX700 TV Sony active 3D system......with its 240 motionflow rate and the black frames interposed between each lighted frame it produces an effective rate of 60 frames/sec per eye in 3D mode.....this system required the use of the older, heavier, uncomfortable IR 3D glasses whose flicker in a bright lighted room was annoying, my spouse rarely got through a whole movie without taking a break.......viewing was particularly sensitive to left/right tilting of the head which introduced cross talk and changes in light levels between eyes........ 3D viewing was just OK.

Upgraded to a KDL70W850B which uses the Sony active Bluetooth RF system and a 480 Hz motion flow rate with Image blur reduction which doubles effective rate to 120 frames/sec. per eye in 3D. The set came with the older TDG-BT400A 3D glasses but manual integral in the TV software specified BT500A replacements. The difference between the old and new system is dramatic......lightweight glasses with easily changeable battery, .....removable nose piece for Rx glasses users for a great fit..........no critical line of sight requirement with the IR transmitter in the TV.......no critical leveling of the head to prevent crosstalk and lighting changes.

Watched all my 3D movies again on the newer system and the experience is no longer just OK; it is incredible...even the spouse agrees and can now sit through a whole movie without taking a break.......finally an impressive 3D viewing experience......viewing is no longer hampered by frame flickering or weight of the glasses......and a more pleasing and realistic depth of view focus of objects on the screen.
