Had a sulfur smell in my hot water after replacing the anode in my tank. I had used a magnesium rod but the smell started within a week of completing the job. I pulled the magnesium rod out, poured in a little hydrogen peroxide while I got set up, swapped in this zinc guy after cutting it down a bit, and buttoned everything back up. Ran a bunch of water through the tank to flush it and Bam, no more smell. It's been a couple of months now since the swap and the smell has not returned. Very happy.

Update 3/16/16
It's been over a year, still working great. I have also installed this same anode into 4 other hot water tanks for friends of mine who complained of the sulfur smell in their hot water. Eliminated the sulfur smell for them as well. If you've got a sulfur problem, give this a try.

We have a rental property and although the water heater was old, it worked well. However, the water had a slight odor and we looked all over for one of these rods. While shopping on AMAZON, I found this rod and showed my husband. He said, "Order it," and I did. Seven months later there is still no odor in the water. We realize eventually we will need to replace the water heater, but until then . . .problem solved. It arrived sooner than scheduled, so no complaints here!

Ordered this rod to replace the standard aluminum/magnesium rod that came with the Kenmore electric water heater. We are on a well and the standard sacrificial rods react with the water releasing an acrid sulfur smell. I received this rod quickly and it cut to size and installed as needed. Problem solved - no more bad smelly water!

This rod was to replace our old one. This one took the rotten egg smell right out of the water heater.

This rod is a lifesaver. The old anode in our water heater had basically turned to complete mush (it did what it was supposed to!), and our hot water smelled horribly of sulfur. Once we put in this new rod, the smell completely disappeared. It's been over four months, and we still have odourless hot water. This purchase was definitely worth it!

after suffering with stinky hot water, trying to drain my water heater all the time with no change, I put this anode in, BINGO my old anode was disgusting.

This new anode has been in for a month or so and I have had Zero problems and my water smells good.

I am very happy.

Bought this in May 2013. Works instantly! It's been a year and a half, the smell is just now starting to come back. I didn't even know hot water heaters had these in them. They say you should replace every year. Like I said, mine has worked great for a year and a half. Well worth the money.
