it seems appropriate i first played this during a rainstorm, with thunder and lightening. it's almost as if dickie (god rest his r&r soul)was playing right along with the cd. recorded in april of 2008, this is the cd version of the dvd that has been out for awhile. the band sounds great, music crisp and recording fantastic. tracks are from a variety of recordings both older and newer. the bonus material is top notch. hopefully "allegator boots" is out of the radio airwaves because it is a great metal song. "she's something else" has more of a rock and roll feel to it. either way both are very marketable as a single. all in all this is a delightful and needed addition to any blue cheer collection and even to those who are not familiar with the true metal gods of the universe.

Few knew what to make of Blue Cheer when they released Vincebus Eruptum in 1968 and their outrageously electric cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" climbed into the Top 20. Amidst a music scene that had grown louder and harder in the aftermath of the Summer of Love, Blue Cheer was harder and louder than anything around them. They took rock music to 12, pasting together the hardest, loudest bits you might have heard from The Who or Jimi Hendrix into a sustained scrum of growling, feedback-heavy guitar, thumping bass, pounding drums and howling vocals. Many listeners simply didn't know what to make of this new sound, but by album's end, which included a weighty cover of Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm," it was clear that this power trio was launching something completely new.

The group waxed and waned for the next forty years, sustaining innumerable lineup changes, but mostly retaining its thunderous rhythm section of founding bassist-vocalist Dickie Peterson and early drummer Paul Whaley. Peterson provided the group's foundation through thick and thin, dropping out only very briefly in 1975, and it was Peterson and Whaley, along with guitarist Andrew "Duck" Peterson, who recorded this 2008 live set for the German television show Rockpalast. This lineup had been together off and on since MacDonald joined the band in 1988, and had been playing together steadily since 1999. Peterson passed away the year after this set was recorded, but as this recording shows, the band retained their pummeling sound to the end, and the rasp in Peterson's voice added patina to their heavy psych-blues.Read more ›

blue cheers ,randy holden ,frank marino,terry brooks & strange,randy hansen,jeffrey liberman,the deviants,young flowers,
noah-brain suck...
all of which music full of insanity,
if you don't like it
pitch your abode
in the temperate zone
where all this amiable mediocrity has made itself at home.

This concert filmed in Germany marks the final concert given by Blue Cheer before the passing of Dickie Peterson. And by listening to it you can tell this is a band that is not up to scratch. The songs are slow and trudge along painfully slow. So I'm not sure if it was due to Peterson's illness that he perhaps was not up to performing that night. This is not the legacy that Blue Cheer fans would want to hear. Break out the old albums and celebrate a great band that is no longer with us.
