Nice item-needs sanding if used for betta. When I received this aquarium rock, I tried the pantyhose test needed for betta fish- stretch out some pantyhose over your hand and run your hand over the item to see if it snags. If so, it will harm your Berta's flowing fins. In any case, this item failed miserably. I went over the rock with some strips of sandpaper (don't forget the edges and inside of the rock!)until it passed, and now it feels smooth, not rough. It is a nice addition to the tank, just the right size for a smaller tank, and serves as a goood base for tying a live plant to. I think my betta likes swimming through it too! If it passed the pantyhose test when I got it in the mail, it would have gotten 5 stars.

Great weight and look, but the thing is very rough and gritty. I bought 3 one for each of my female Betta and one for the male. Make can't use it as it tears up his fins. Females seem ok as they are smaller with far less fin to worry about.

I bought this at my local specialty pet store for 6 dollars, so I was able to pick out one without a noticeable seam. The packaging clearly states it is not real granite, and there is a seam connecting the top and bottom. It was a perfect size for my 2-inch tropical fish, I have seen 2 or 3 hiding in there during water changes, and would work great for a betta. Im not sure of the material, but after rubbing the insides to smooth a few rougher spots, there were small stone-like balls left in the water. 4 star review is because there is a small stain, which looks like rust, that appeared after a few days in the tank.

This hideaway is rough!! When arrived it was rougher than your driveway's concrete. One reviewer said they had to sand it down to make it smooth and they are 100% correct. I spent just over an hour sanding this rock down, first using 60 grit then 220 grit sandpaper. I sanded the outside, inside and the edges of the entrances. It is now very smooth and looks awesome! My betta hasn't swam through it yet so I don't know about that.

Well my Betta could care less about this rock, he prefers to hang in the plants, but...the danios love to swim through it all the time. This is why I gave it 5 stars. They seem to enjoy swimming though it, like it is some sort of toy and adventurous path. I would guess all small fish would probably like this rock.

Definitely small but it's cute and looks good in my tank. Prob too rough and small for a beta but for smaller fish it definitely works. Textured surface needs to be cleaned with an old toothbrush or something similar to make it look good again. One of the easier items in my tank to clean though. I like it.

Arrived chipped in multiple places and no chips in the packaging so it was broken when sent. (If using for Betta it took 20 minutes of sanding to get half smooth enough. Still needs more to be honest.)

I was initially going use this as a little hidey hole for my betta, but the material was kind of crumbly and the edges a bit jagged and rough (couldn't really smooth it due to crumbling). I'd rather not risk his delicate fins so I instead stuck a Nana plant in it. It works well for that purpose.
