Just what I needed for my Kayak! tested it out 2 weeks ago on Strawberry reservoir (utah) and was able to get an accurate depth and was able to find the schools of fish as i slowly paddled around. Even while anchored off jigging I would get a bite just seconds after the finder beeped. caught 10 Cutthroat trout between 15-21 inches.

Looking forward to using it while ice fishing this upcoming season!

I have not had a chance to put it in a lake yet, but I ran the simulator and I could not be more excited! I fly into a lake in Canada every year, just two of us on the lake for a week. I have never taken up a 'newer' fish finder, only the old flasher crap long long ago. I cannot wait to use this up there! it is compact, clear and all around cool! I will be mounting the transducer on a 1x2 and c-clamping the wood to the transom so we can troll with it on. I was going to get a black and white one but decided on spending the few extra bucks, and I am glad I did!

I attached a pitcure of what my transducer looked like right out of the box. Needless to say I am returning it and getting a new one, but make sure you check it out before you own it for good. I wrote the supplier and they did offer a new transducer to be sent from China, or, a partial refund to use as is, but it is much easier to return to Amazon and order a new one. I am not sure if this will affect the readings or not, but I don't think I should have to find out. So I dropped a star off of my rating from the original 5.

This is an upgrade from the cheaper 39 $ version and works much, much better. The depth stays on (notlike the cheap one) and every aspect of this one is great. I wish it came with a port to plug in a bigger battery but the 4 aaa batteries do last all day. It even picks up my lures.

Great little unit, for my purposes (ice fishing). Screen resolution and visibility are great. It shows the location and depth of micro jigs, allowing adjustment of fishing depth to fish location. Helps a lot in prospecting! Handled 10°F and moisture well. Battery life decent, no need to haul a 12V motorcycle battery on the ice.

This is what I needed (a portable sonar unit for my kayak), but needs some slight modifications.
I've seen the pros-cons list in other reviews, so I'll do that here...
Pros
1. Portable with display is about the size of a graphing calculator. Which is great since my space is very limited.
2. Uses 4 AAA batteries (not a 12V battery that needs to be mounted). Another space saver.
3. The transducer can be towed behind my kayak (doesn't need to be mounted, but does have a mount).
4. Multiple sonar options (83, 200, and split 83/200 Htz) and display options possible.
5. Easy to navigate menus (for options).
6. Display works great in full sunlight or in the dark.
7. Cord from transducer to display is pretty long. I haven't extended it all the way, just the 6 feet I need and there's plenty of cord left.
8. Float for the transducer is depth adjustable (this will also be a Con point).
9. Velcro strap for the cord.
10. Battery usage is good. On lake for over 3 hours with unit on about 2.5. Had brand new Duracells. Power reading never went below 5.4 volts (started at 6v).
Cons (a few with #1 being the major issue)
1. No mounting options. The display comes with a detachable neck strap near the buttons. While paddling I couldn't see the display and I need 2 hands to paddle, so I built a small wooden box which is tied to my left leg just above the knee that holds the display. Mounting on my kayak isn't really an option. There aren't any flat surfaces within reach and in sight as I paddle. The box option is OK but display shifts. I'll try a velco strap on the back, like for a belt, and have a velcro strap around my left leg.
2. The float adjusts, slides down, when being towed.

The first one I received didn't work at all so I ended up writing a bad review and sent it back. The company had seen that I was displeased and without asking me had sent me a second one. Just received it a few hours ago and threw it into the pond. It works perfect. Definitely what I was looking for to take out in the kayak and was a little worried I wouldn't find anything else like it. Good product and company if you run into problems with it they will work with you to fix it.

Took this on a recent trip, first use, to the boundary waters in June 2015. The battery life was surprisingly great. I ran it in color mode for 8 hours on the alkaline Duracell batteries and it was still going strong. I did buy a lowrance suction cup mount from Cabelas for $10 so I could mount this on our canoe. I placed the mount in the front and it worked probably 90% well. The 10% was because unexpectedly a 0 feet reading would pop up about every 10 minutes for a split second when we were definitely in about 10 to 25 feet of water. My guess is I did not have this placed appropriately on the canoe, or there was a setting I did not have set correctly. I need to do more testing. As for the depth though I'd say it was working great. I let out my fishing line and pulled up the line and roughly guestemated the depth and it seemed very close. Also, it picked up rocks and vegetation well. The sensitivity level was a bit difficult to get set. We did hit the fish where it said there were fish, so that's a plus. I would highly recommend this device for anyone using a kayak, or canoe and weight is of the utmost importance, and battery life is also of great importance. Hope this helps you guys out. Don't be misled by the no-name brand, I was skeptical, but was very pleased with this purchase. Have fun and happy fishing!!!!
