Not just for seniors...

I have the base set, pendant, and two additional handsets. I bought this phone for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I was looking for a white phone with 2 handsets. And then as I read about this phone, I liked the idea of the pendant to keep with me as I do whatever around the house and outside. I am not a senior citizen but live alone and am slightly handicapped. I have fallen twice before but was okay. Never say never. This phone is a good idea not only for older people but for people who live alone. I have only had it for a few days but really like it. I love the pendant. You can do so much with the pendant that you don't have to carry a phone around with you. There are different options on this system. Do your research and pick the best option and price for you. You can put your own set together as well. Nice phone. I am pleased so far.

Clear calls, Voice activation. Lacks speed dialing.

My 89 year old father is hard of hearing and almost blind so we thought this was perfect but we had to take it back due to the lack of speed dialing since that is a deal breaker even though it was great for listening to calls and had other great features he liked.

Bad:
1. Pendant: Will only speed dial the two numbers you programmed into the pendant. Will not call any of the people you programmed into the phone book in the handset. Like most voice activated items you might have to repeat requests multiple times and move to a quieter room that doesn't have a loud fan, air conditioner, or dishwasher. According to the user manual the battery has to be recharged every 5 hours (It didn't state how long it takes to recharge.) To use the voice activation you have to push and hold down one of the "Voice" buttons on the side of the pendant which might be hard for someone with severe arthritis.

2. Handset: Does not have the ability to push buttons to speed dial. Does not have voice activation on the handset to call anyone you programmed into the handset.

Good:
1. Pendant: Includes attachments so you can wear it around your neck or clipped to your pants (or you can just slip it in your pocket.) Speaker phone. Has voice activation for calls, voice mail, reminders, date and time. Simple to use with a call button on one side and the other side has two speed dials buttons and a volume button. The voice activation buttons are on each side. Can be programmed to say "good morning" when you take it out of the charger in the morning to let you know it is fully charged. Verbally tells you when it is down to 30 minutes of battery and then beeps occasionally as it continues to get lower on battery.

GREAT EMERGENCY SUMMONS DEVICE- WORKS GREAT WITH VOIP - LONG WIRELESS RANGE - VERY ECONOMICAL

I am very pleased with this wireless landline phone system made for seniors. I bought this for my mom who lives in guest house behind us, she is 83 and I now she has immediate access to phone for help in an emergency with the pendant she wears around her neck. Plus we bought an extra handset so now she also has a phone with large buttons she can easily see and can use the intercom feature to contact us in the main house very easily. I was initially concerned about the wireless signal range since the base is connected in the main house where our VOIP [Vongae] router is connected to internet, and moms house is at least 75 yards away and the signal is going through several walls, some of which are exterior stucco cement. The signal and clarity of calls are very good, no problems at all. I use it connected to internet Vonage line but of course it will work just as well connected to direct land line telephone service. I like that it announces who the caller is because she knows who is calling her before answering. The pendant device is convenient, she can dial pregramed 911 or me on my cell by pressing one button, she can also answer regular phone calls on the pendant if she is outside with it around her neck. Other products and service are available with a pendant that dials an emergency service but those also have a monthly service cost, this is simply a phone with great features for seniors and the only monthly cost is the phone line which we already had anyway. This provides much peace of mind for my mom and our family knowing that if she needs help fast its just the push of a button which is always accessible. The one feature I wish it had was assigned speed dials on the regular handset but its still a great system regardless. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone wanting fast access to make emergency calls for your loved ones.

Call buttons are too easy to press.

The location of the call buttons on the pendant can cause unintended emergency calls. The buttons are large, unprotected, and too easily pressed.

The buttons are mounted on the back of the pendant which exposes them to body contact. When worn like a necklace around the neck the call buttons contact the users chest. This makes it easy to initiate calls accidentally.

Mistaken calls can also be initiated whenever the user handles the pendant. Fingers naturally touch the back of the pendant where the buttons are located whenever the device is picked up. Also, it's virtually impossible to carry the pendant in a pocket or handbag without pressing the call buttons.

A power switch on the pendant can be used to turn the unit off when not in use. This would prevent nuisance calls, but the user must not forget to turn the unit on before pressing the call button.

I bought one of these for my 80 year old mother. She likes it but I'm getting a little impatient with random calls. I intended for her to use the pendant in case of emergency but I'm getting accidental calls from her daily. She says the pendant initiates calls on its own but I believe the buttons are being pressed accidentally because of the questionable design.

Its okay - but
