After seeing many pictures of how a breastshield is supposed to fit, I thought I was supposed to get a larger size. Pictures are very misleading! Ladies, buy the breastshield according to the size of your nipples, not the size of your breasts or areola! I now wear a 38G (after giving birth to twins) and needed the smallest size breastshield available. I noticed my supply took a huge hit when I used breast shields larger than standard.. Then tried the smallest size (one size smaller than standard) and my supply over doubled. I went from 2-4oz a session to 6-8oz per pump session..

These are very well made and work great, but will do you no good unless you get the correct size!! Also, for those of you pumping because your baby won't nurse- check out nipple shields!

First of all, I just want to say, the product (Maymom made 21mm one-piece breastshield) is quality made, and I have been using it for the past three weeks. No more pains! Ya. I expressed at least 1 oz more milk every session after I have used these 21 mm breastshields. This one piece product works as well as the two piece Medela PersonalFit 21mm one.

What I would like to share more is how I came to this product. Like everyone else, I tried the 24 mm breastshield that came with the machine. As a first-time mother, I thought having some pains after a pumping session is normal. I was wrong. After few days of using it, the pains were terrible. I experienced a lot of pains and bruising from using the standard 24mm shields. From the diagrams on Medela's website and the information that comes with the pump, the flange should fit with just your nipple being pulled in during pumping. It is confusing if you have a mixed areola/nipple area. The problem is that my 'areola' protrudes about 1/8 inches and I thought that is part of the 'nipple' area when I talked to a lactation consultant. The lactation consultant told me to try larger breastshields. I tried larger one (27 mm), though it did not hurt as much, my milk supply went down by one-third and the bruise area became large. I felt every suction along the pumping. I tried the next size up - 30 mm, even worse!

After reading more and more reviews, I decided to try a smaller one. I ordered both Medela's PersonalFit 21 mm breastshield and this Maymom made one (it is cheaper, and others said it is easier to clean). Tada.. No more pains. Both brands worked well. Finally a FIT.Read more ›

Decent quality, and the only available 19mm shields I could find. I only wish they were a two piece version - it's very difficult to clean inside the narrow plastic channels without being able to take the flange off. The yellow valves seem to be a bit more brittle than the name brand version - both of mine had a bit of the plastic crumble and break off after a few gentle removal and washings, but it was still functional. Considering that they need to be removed for a good cleaning, it'd be nice if they were a little more robust, I worry I'm going to break more off every time I try to remove them.

It's worth noting that the 19mm version seems to be designed for women with small breasts, not just narrow nipples, the shield cones themselves have a very sharp angle so they weren't ideal for my situation - larger breasts and small nipples. They fit my nipple far better than even the 21mm shields, but due to the sharp angle of the plastic cone, I sometimes had difficulty maintaining suction. Because of this, and the difficulty with cleaning, I've gone back to the name brand 21mm shields, but I'd use these again in a heartbeat if there was a version with a shallower cone shape that was more suitable to larger, rounder breasts.

I wish I could give a full 5-stars! First off, the product is awesome. And a big thank you to Maymom for making these alternative sizes. Even with personal fit there are still some smaller and bigger people out there. Quality is great and I can't wait to use my new shields.

Why I can't give a full 5-star: my product was damaged during shipping! Product was packed in just a plastic bag kind of thing and the bag was torn during the delivery process in the end: damage. I'd have to suggest using bags with some bubbles inside.

This was my first Maymom purchase. Honestly, I always saw the listings and thought it was a random China supplier. I was wrong. Maymom is a smaller newish company per the insert that came with the shields.

First, these are ONE piece flanges. Instead of the flange being one piece, the clear connector being one (that connects the bottle and the flange), and the yellow piece/white membrane being one (3 pieces that you connect into one), this is a one piece flange and clear connector part. It does also come with a yellow piece and a membrane so theoretically it's two pieces.

This made zero difference to me. I rinse my parts right away but if you don't, you might have issues with milk drying into parts you can't get to. No biggie though, I soak mine in hot soapy water at the end of the day and then sterilize in a Medela steam bag. If you don't rinse right away, you should store them in the fridge so that no drops of milk are left to go bad and get into your next fresh pump.

Next, the quality is just as good as Medela. The yellow pieces coloring isn't quite 100% Medela yellow or otherwise you'd never know they aren't made by Medela.

Lastly, I'm very happy with the sizing and glad I ordered these. If you are unsure of sizing, Google the Medela flange size chart. I actually bought bigger ones (XL) after thinking the sizing with my pump wasn't quite right. The charts confused me. What finally made it click was realizing I have small areolas. With small areolas, the milk ducts are closer to my nipples than those with larger ones. So the diameter needed to properly press those ducts needs to be smaller.
