Great buy

Better than expected

These work much better than I expected!
Much easier for my 6 yo to use than traditional walkie talkies. I've had fun playing with the kids but my ears are a bit bigger than the earpiece was designed for.

Good but not perfect

I searched through hundreds of non-traditional walkie talkie options. We have 9 yr olds who are all about spy stuff at the moment. The reviews were horrible for almost every product so I kind of had to read between the lines a bit. I don't know why people are saying the instructions aren't clear? It tells you exactly what to do and ours have done it properly every time. That's the good news. The bad news is there is no volume control and when they say "whisper sensitive" they mean it! The kids have to remember not to get too excited and start yelling into it or they come in with headaches after half an hour or so. The neck size is great & adjustable, fit everyone from our skinny little 6 yr old to my 6'2" 275 lb husband.. the ear bud/ear cuff on the other hand did not fit anyone under 8. The kids did mention wishing they had wrist watch walkie talkies instead but those had even worse reviews. All in all they have had a good time with them. I would buy them again knowing what I know now. They aren't perfect but there are much worse on the market to choose from.

Worse, if there is an obstacle

These Spy Gear headset walkie-talkies have two problems.

1) While they are *cool* and ergonomic (in that they have throat mikes and earphones that fit even adult ears), they are VERY range limited. By VERY, I mean that with NO line-of-sight interruptions (i.e., no brush, no solid obstructions, etc.), their range is reliably only 35-40 yards. This may seem OK but really is not, because the whole idea is to be able to transmit THROUGH brush and other concealment -- thus the name "stealth" -- and any trees or brush reduce the range considerably. Worse, if there is an obstacle, their range is essentially zero. Thus I tested this by trying to transmit from the outside of one wall of my house to the outside of the opposite wall. This distance is ~30 feet. The reception was non-existent.

2) The sound quality was, to my ears, quite bad.

For these two reasons, I would not recommend this for any boys (or men!) who want this to try to use to communicate stealthily between detached forces on the same side as they sneak up on enemy forces -- which obviously was OUR intended mission. We're returning these if we can.

Once you figure out how to get them to work, they are pretty good (though the fit is difficult for my kids at least--they have to HOLD the speaker in their ear). Still very cool.
