I tried Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken & it gave my 17 mo old GSD diarrhea so I tried C & P Organix, stools were good but coat was dull & brittle & dog had no energy. I switched back to BB Wilderness but this time in Bison flavor & my dog loves it, stools are small & firm, his coat is soft & shinny & his energy level is way up, he's feeling good! I guess you just have to experiment to see what works for your dog.

I feed this to my older Chihuahua rescue dog - have to laugh every time I get out the bag with the wolf on front for my 5-pound killer! But the fact is, he has really thrived on this diet. He has been on this for about 3 years now - Wilderness dry in the morning and Wilderness canned at night. Being a rescue, I don't know his actual age, but he has had to have some teeth pulled and he is getting pretty gray, so I know he's a senior. Still, he prances like a pup and his coat is shiny and soft as velvet. He appears to have a healthy digestive system and no skin problems. I attribute his good health to his Blue Buffalo diet - and lots of love, of course!

Yes there is chicken in it. My dog loves the red meat variety, but don't be fooled. Ingredients list:
"Deboned beef, chicken meal, turkey meal, tapioca startch...Chicken fat...So if you want beef or other red meat (undescribed) for $24+ add your own beef to a dry food and get the real deal.

Our young female Doberman absolutely loves this Blue Buffalo Rocky Mountain with Red Meat food. She's now 2 years old and has been on Blue Buffalo products since she was 8 weeks old. The Rocky Mountain Recipe - Red Meat is her favorite, we even use it as a treat in training sessions. As with all "new to your dog" food, this should be slowly introduced to your dog over a couple of weeks - we slowly introduced it in 1/4 increments (3/4 old food and 1/4 new, then 1/2 and 1/2, the 1/4 old and 3/4 new) with each increment about 4 days long. Zeppe now gets 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening, plus treats, she is very active and still maintains her weight (70 pounds).

My dog was fed the SPCA sponsor's Science Diet food and I continued to use that for months after I got him. He had terrible stomach problems with it - diarrhea and typically unhealthy, unformed, goopy BMs. Sorry for the graphic! He also did not rush to eat it.

I decided to switch dog foods and landed upon Blue Buffalo Wilderness after reading numerous consumer and 3rd party ratings and reviews. Shortly after switching him over, his stomach problems ceased completely. He has not had a multiday bout of diarhea since and all of his BMs are formed and solid. (again, sorry for the graphic!) His coat also looks great - thick and shiny. He really likes this stuff as he gobbles a bowl full down quickly. I've been feeding him this stuff for the past year and a half.

The great thing is that they have numerous meat flavors to keep things exciting - I rotate on all of the flavors - salmon, duck, chicken, Rocky Mountain with Bison; with Red Meat. I've yet to get him the new Rocky Mountain with Rabbit & with Trout. The Rocky Mountains cost a slight bit more but not enough to care. All of the flavors provide the same benefits - they all react in the same positive way with my pup.

Some people think this stuff is 'expensive' compared to the cheap grocery store stuff. First of all, consider how much you spend on groceries for yourself - probably at least $200 a month. This food costs about $50 for a month which is nothing compared to your own food, and it provides huge benefits over your old grain filled food resulting in a healthier pup with regular BMs and stomach patterns. I rescued my dog, Cooper in 2010. I was buying a much cheaper brand of dog food and couldn't understand why he was so itchy! I was washing him with a super moist shampoo/conditioner mixed with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. I am a dermatology nurse and one of the doctors agreed to test a skin scrape sample of Cooper after I felt like I was out of ideas.

The skin sample showed that it was a food allergy from grain. His dog food was loaded with wheat and grain! I switched him to Blue and within the week, his itching stopped completely!

Fast forward 3 years. My husband and I were going on vacation for a week and left our dogs with my mother-in-law. Even though we brought more than enough Blue food for a small rescue, she decided that she was going to use a dog food that my sister-in-law recommended so that my husband and I, "stop wasting money on expensive dog food." I won't name names, but the first ingredient on the package was grain! I was so upset to see that my dogs were so itchy and miserable all because she wanted to prove a point. After 3 days of my dogs being back on Blue, they were back to their normal non-itchy-selves.

My only recommendation would be to switch up the flavors if your dog can tolerate it. I was buying nothing but the chicken flavor for awhile and the dogs seemed to be kind of bored with it. I rotate flavors now and they are doing great with it. No itchy skin, soft coat, healthy teeth!

I couldn't ask for a better product to give my furbabies.
