I purchased this tureen as a gift for relatives celebrating their 25th anniversary. I have an aversion to "ordinary" things and always look for things I deem more interesting. This tureen is beautiful and will work well for family dinners or company dinners. This tureen comes with a matching ladle, and I wasn't particularly thrilled with the ladle. The ladle struck me as being a little too small for the task it would be given. In addition to sending the tureen and ladle to the anniversary couple, I also sent a silver ladle that had a bigger bowl, allowing it to scoop up a larger portion of soup at a time. The opening in the lid for the ladle is large enough to handle many different kinds of ladles.
This tureen makes a nice gift (even if it is to yourself!), and I would recommend giving one as a wedding or anniversary gift, or as a birthday gift if you know someone who enjoys making soup.

What a beautiful dish! It's pretty enough to use as a centerpiece on the coffee table. The colors are beautiful. Looks like an antique piece. Can't wait to make soup and serve it in it. My family is going to love it!

i really like the quality of these pieces. I'm not really the type of person who cares about dishes and that kind of thing, but I really liked these. I think the reason for it is that the modeling of the birds is very good, and the colors are realistic. I also feel like the pieces are robust and the bird might actually survive living in this house (we're not a very precious household, so things get broken easily). I bought a second one, and the centerpiece, so that should tell you a lot.
