Style Name: 6i6 - 6 inputs (2 mic pres) / 6 outputs Verified Purchase
I purchased the Scarlett 6i6 because I was in need of an audio interface that allowed me to send a separate signal to other band members. This was perfect because it has two headphone outputs and each one can have it's own signal. Further more the extra outputs on the back allow for future expansion if needed later.

First off this isn't my first dance with Focusrite. I previously had a Scarlett 2i2. The 2i2 had great Mic Pre-Amps and a great build quality. While I did like the interface I traded it for the Propellerhead Balance Audio Interface. Balance was also a 2in/2out device but it allowed you to connect multiple devices at once and switch the inputs at the push of a button. Balance was an awesome interface but lacked in the multiple outputs. After much research I came across the Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 which according to the specs it would suite my needs.

Build Quality
The Scarlett 6i6 has great build quality as you would expect. It has a thick, rugged metal casing so it should stand up to some abuse. The jacks feel solid and durable. My only complaint on the build quality would be the monitor and headphone knobs. They seem to be of cheaper quality when compared with the solid feel of the gain knobs located by the Mic Pre-Amp inputs. I'm sure if you take care of your unit the monitor and headphone knobs will be just fine. However if you're rough on equipment be very cautious with those knobs because I could see them potentially breaking if too much stress is put on them during travel.

Setup and Use
The install was very easy. Simply register your unit and then proceed to download and install the Scarlett MixControl software. Be sure to do this before connecting the unit to your computer.

I own several audio interfaces, and this is probably the best I've bought in this price range. The most useful (and hardly advertised) feature is that it can operate in standalone and class compliant (CC) mode. There is no need to connect it to a computer, and it works natively with a iPad. I can carry it and use it on stage for monitoring, and turn it into a portable recording studio with a iPad. Do not neglect offline use when buying an interface, I've come to appreciate this feature after owning several devices which only work when connected to a computer and wished that Focusrite had released interfaces like these earlier.

The power adapter supports 110 - 240 V and the connectors can be swapped for different types of sockets.

For a really in-depth review (hardware / software / performance), refer to this review for Scarlett 18i6 (18i8 has 4 preamps, 2 headphone outs, standalone mode and better iPad compatiblity):

Style Name: 18i20 - 18 inputs (8 mic pres) / 20 outputs
I'll skip the generic praise and get to the essential pros and cons.

Pros:
A myriad of inputs and outputs
Two headphone outputs
Beautiful red paintjob
Heavy duty construction
Free mixing plugins
Standby mode allows throughput just by turning on
ADAT support
MIDI in/ MIDI out
The free MixControl software
Focusrite Preamps

Cons:
You must install MixControl to install appropriate drivers as there is no driver CD in the box. Small one time annoyance.

Gain has to be cranked sometime to get an appropriate level signal.

Phantom power can only be turned throughout inputs 1-4 and 5-8 at a time. No on an as needed. so if only input 3 needs phantom power you must push the phantom power 1-4 button engaging it for all 4 inputs. Don't worry as this will NOT damage or affect the other inputs using dynamic mics and will only hurt older ribbon mics.

Lets start with the preamps. Focusrite is world renowned for their preamps and it really shows here. The interesting thing I noticed when I first ran my guitar through it was the it sounded WORSE than my Mbox Pro's preamps in terms of EQ. Thats because the Scarlett is more transparent in it's preamps allowing you to more accurately here your tone. After adjusting my tone the sound increased in quality by sevenfold. Also there was a noticeable increase in dynamic range as the Mbox had more of a compressed sound.

Included is the MixControl software which allows users to route different mixes to any output they see fit. This come in handy for live sound as it allow you to set up monitor mixes, both wedges and in ear.

Style Name: 18i20 - 18 inputs (8 mic pres) / 20 outputs
I've only had the Scarlett 18-20 for a day but I feel compelled to review it. I've been using a Tascam US-1641 for years. It's a similar interface with 8 mic pre's, which I need for recording drums, but I wanted to upgrade to something more stable and with better preamps. The Tascam is a budget interface that definitely gets the job done, but bland preamps, dodgy construction, and buggy drivers make it a love/hate relationship. It wasn't until I bought a new computer and upgraded to Sonar X3 that the device finally became stable, but a bug required that I reinstall the drivers every few days, and I could only get latency down to 15ms round trip. I was really just looking for an all-around upgrade: better pre's, stable drivers, lower latency.

I was considering Tascam's newest iteration, the US-16x08, which would hopefully give me stable drivers with ongoing support. But besides that, the device appears to be merely a re-skin of the US-1800, which is a re-skin of my US-1641; definitely not worth the price tag. So I've been looking at the Behringer U-PHORIA UMC1820, which has an almost too-good-to-be-true price. The only question is if the thing will ACTUALLY EVER BE RELEASED. It was announced a year ago and there's still no word on when we can finally get our hands on one.

So I finally considered the Focusrite 18i20. It was a little out of my price range, but all the reviews said it was pure quality. Focusrite has a reputation for stable drivers and good support, but I was most excited about the award winning preamps. I took the plunge and bought an open-box item at a good discount. Much to my expectations, the build quality is excellent. The knobs are sturdy and turn smoothly, unlike the plasticky feel of the Tascam. The inputs and outputs are all tight and sturdy as well.
