I love the KitchenAid 9 speed mixer. I first tried the 5 & 7 speed (non-digital) ones but they have a sliding finger control knob that would accidentally slide past setting 1 to the other settings. The digital display on this model fixes that problem. Also, the low start-up speed is nice and SLOW like it should be. I tried Cuisinart and their low speed would ramp-up super fast when you first turn on the mixer before settling into it's official 1st speed. I had flour flying everywhere. I also tried Black & Decker Pro from Walmart for $20 which had great reviews but it had a slow speed that was much too fast. Same with Sunbeam. I'm very happy with this mixer and hope to use it for years to come.

I choose to buy a hand mixer instead of a stand mixer because of price and cupboard space. Admittedly, this is a pricey hand mixer, but I was absolutely astounded by it's performance. If you can't get a stand mixer, then get this.

I've been using a Cuisinart hand mixer that my old roommate owned. This mixer performed well, but I was always afraid it was going to break when it had to mix things that are too thick (like cookies).

When my KitchenAid mixer arrived, I set it to work making Holiday cookies. It mixed all the dough with no protest, even my shortbread dough, which has been known to break hand mixers in the past. I used the mixer to make 6 different types of cookies, and it is still going strong. Best hand mixer I've ever used!

If you've done your homework, you know this is a top-rated hand mixer. What you may not have realized yet is how these are packaged. It took me a few minutes to figure this out, but you should note that this mixer comes with all kinds of cool beaters, except one important one... the actual turbo beaters that you will use the most. I then noticed the special offering that combines the mixer and these necessary beaters for an additional $14 incl. shipping (second vender). How very clever! Turns out the configuration varies with the vender; the mixer is packaged different ways depending on who is selling it.

Also note, I inquired with KitchenAid about the differences between the 7 and 9 speed models. Turns out there are real difference is the RPM range; that is, the Hi/lo of each are different (see below), not just the same range, divided differently. Might be of use for buyers to publish this.

7 speed hand mixer - 350, 450, 575, 690, 880, 975, 1100
9 speed hand mixer - 230, 350, 450, 575, 690, 880, 975, 1100, 1300

Hope this helps!

ADDENDUM: Mixer actually came last night with all beater accessories, so I will get an extra set that I don't need. We'll see how easy they are to return. I think this kind of pairing of additional items can be deceiving, or I just have to read more carefully... Will test in on my Sunday waffles tomorrow.

Bought this (the 9-speed) because my old Hamilton Beach (96 watts) from the 80s started making an awful racket. Turned out the plastic cooling-fan blades had crystallized and broken off and were rattling around inside the case when the motor ran.

I was skeptical of this mixer because the wattage was even lower (72 watts), but, given my experience with KitchenAid products, the wonderful Classic stand mixer, the outstanding and very powerful 5-speed blender which quickly turns ice cream, straight from the carton, into a super-thick malt (no additional water or milk needed), and hand blender, I decided to give this hand mixer a try.

Its first, and so far only, task was to blend a 2-pound jar of strawberry preserves into 2.5-pounds of peanut butter in an old Pyrex mixing bowl (purchased years ago from K-Mart, and which yuppies apparently pay high prices for these days in "antique" stores). The mix has the texture of very thick cookie dough, and caused the old mixer to labor heavily ... before the cooling-fan blades started breaking off. The hand blender will accomplish this task, eventually, but the mix is really too thick for that sort of machine. The stand mixer would work just fine, too, but then two bowls are dirty. I prefer to serve, and store (with a lid) from the same bowl used for mixing when I can.

The KitchenAid, with the double (turbo) beaters attached, didn't miss a beat, and it didn't labor at all. It simply did its job, quietly and thoroughly. The whole process completed so quickly that I feared I would find unmixed preserves in the bottom of the bowl. Instead, I found that the preserves had been mixed completely, and uniformly, into the peanut butter. There was no need even for a scraper to guide the mixture toward the beaters. The scraper was needed only for removing the mix from the beaters after the job was finished.

So, I'm happy so far. Time will tell regarding longevity.

Love this hand mixer with the digital numbers. Has arrows that are Very easy to see (red), and push down for higher, and lower speeds. The Off stops on a dime.
My old one ( different type) had the button I had to push sideways to change the speed. I never got use to that one! ..

I use the Dough Hooks for making Meat loaf. It does not get mushy, and it keeps my fingers/hands from freezing.
Also have used the dough hooks for making breads , It does not bog down.

There is not a Turbo speed on here. One of the mixer blade has a bit of a a turbo that works automatically.

At the end of making cookies or cake etc, you can put this on low, it blends in your nuts, chocolate chips etc. without
breaking them apart, and everything is blended in evenly.

The whisk whips up egg whites with high peaks.

Starting out on low, the flour will Not fly all over , like some other mixers have been known to do.
The two mixer blades are a little longer then my old blades. Very nice for mixing up mashed potatoes in a deep pot (use a older stainless pot)
The blades measure: Almost 7 inch, but after there put into the mixer there:about 6 inches long.

This is light weight, and Not noisy , which is a real pleasure.
The cord does Not retract. Although, wish it did like my old one.
This cord swivels to either side.
Before using this, You should push the cord into place underneath, till you hear it Snap, depending what side you want it on. right or left side.
The only flaw I can find with this mixer, is the cord does not retract.

I bought my 9 speed KitchenAid hand mixer in the Color Buttercup Yellow. ( I wanted stainless!).
I buy most everything from Amazon, but found a better price, else where, and more colors then what is shown here.

If I have any problem with this, I will be back to do another review.
