It has clear plastic pockets on the cover and the spine so you can slip your custom graphics in there. There are two inside pockets, also clear, one half-sheet depth and one in front of that 1/4 sheet depth. These pockets run all the way across inside the covers and the spine. It's a very clever bit of design to have the rear (1/2 sheet) pocket be a strap that underlaps the lower pocket by an inch but does not go all the way to the bottom of the cover ... so really there's just one pocket, with a divider. It makes the pockets ever-so-slightly thinner, and easier to get paper in and out.

The rings are mounted on the back, not the spine (which seems to be standard nowadays.) The binder opens flat, and pages on the right side lie very nicely. The rings are supposedly "never-gap." Instead of coming together along a zigzag seam like the rings in my old binders, these have a tiny 1mm pin on one jaw which nestles into a corresponding divot in the other jaw ... so even when the rings are pulled slightly apart, the length of the pin will prevent sheets from slipping out. Clever!

The "single touch" mechanism is operated by one large lever at the bottom. It's very easy to use; push on it and the rings snap open. You can use the lever to close them, but the action in that direction is rather stiff - I found it easier to simply squeeze the center ring together, and they all snap shut.

The cover material feels smoother and the edge seams are softer & more flexible than the old vinyl binders I grew up with. The hinges are made with rather large diagonal heat welds. I torqued the corners a bit to see what would happen, and the material stretched but did not crack or tear.Read more ›

First off, I have to say that I cannot imagine spending this much for a 3-ring binder, but my use of this definitely shows a "you get what you pay for" idea.

I truly can open this with one hand, which shocked me. I love the pockets on the inside, so I can actually sort papers out fairly well before placing them into the binder. I end up taking this to meetings, and I can slip handouts in and SORT them. Love that.

The binder seems very sturdy, and the clips haven't slipped at all on me.

I like this binder. I'm just too cheap to spend this much for it.

A binder that helped me get outof a real bind. I am writing four books about what it was like for me to grow up into adulthood with autism. Now whenever I do something there must be structure and that structure is often very detailed. Now any detailed product I embark on takes lots of paper to manage it and condense it in ways your neurologically typical folk can understand. Every subject I intend to cover in the respective books has its own peice of paper in a transparent covering. There are likely 500 subjects in each of the four books and that makes for a thick buch of papers in transparent coverings. The little 3 inch binders barely held my array of pages. Anything smaller would have been an epic fail.

Being autistic means if I split the pages into many smaller binders I would get so confused my system would melt down. If my self management systems meltdown there would be no books written by me and good friends would be very upset with me. So I had to go with this much bigger 5 inch wide 3 ring binder. I needed 5 inch volumes that could hold all 500 transparancy wrapped pages in one binder and these binders best fit my needs.

Now the overall quality of the binder is good in that the binder cover material is better than the vinyl covers that come on most three ring binders. The vinyl binders soon develop a memory that fatiques the materials with moderate use. The material on this binder while vinyl like in appearance and feel seems both different and more durable so I give it more stars. The 3 biggest negatives about this binder are

#1. The spring loaded clasps are very weak and will fly open without much effort or prodding.

I am giving this product 2 stars because the exterior does seem to be quite durable. The problem, however, is with the rings. You would assume that a 5 inch binder would be made with very secure rings as they are going to have to handle a bit of weight. Unfortunately, when these were filled and placed in a crate-style storage unit, the rings opened enough to allow sheet protected documents to fall out. Wilson Jones, please secure your rings to match the strength of the exterior.

I gave this 4 stars with my initial review, but it's officially a one-star item. After only few months of use which entailed mostly sitting around, the cover/sleeve already cracked, and the spine area where the binder folds is becoming undone. At least the price has come down to $7.85 for one binder. The tab still works great and remains as the best feature. Keep your original proof of purchase so you can take advantage of the warranty if you received a bad one like me.

I would've given 5 stars, but at review time, the price is listed at $14.69 for one binder. ONE. That's ridiculous.

As for the binder itself, the best feature is the one-finger tab to open - it works great. I can't comment on its durability because I have to review it within 30 days after receiving the item, but since it comes with a 5-year warranty, I'd imagine that the binder will last a long time. Given its price, it better last!
