In the beginning was the Word and the Word was written with a G-2 pen. The only thing Thor’s hammer cannot crush? This pen! Harry Potter was only able to defeat He Who Shall Not Be Named because his wand contains a single Phoenix feather and also a G-2 Pen. When Navy Seals perform emergency tracheotomies in the heat of battle – they only use the shaft of the G-2. And no matter how intense the fight becomes – No G-2 is left behind! When Rambo writes love letters to his knife – what does he use? The G-2. Yo momma’s like a Pilot G-2. …Everybody wants to get their hands on her. Kevin Costner didn’t have gills in Waterworld. He was just snorkeling with a G-2 pen. Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to a G-2 pen! And with the G-2, no more chicken scratch – just beautiful calligraphy. Why won’t Donald Trump change his hair style? Because that is where he hides his golden G-2! Where have all the cowboys gone? They’re in Office Depot doodling on tiny paper scraps with sample G-2s. What is truly in Area 51? The Ark of the Covenant filled with G-2 pens. That's why you die if you touch the Ark. NOBODY steals God's G-2s! Captain Hook's favorite hand replacement? His G-2 attachment. How did Stevie Wonder go blind? He looked directly at the shimmering glory of the G-2 pen. How did Houdini pull off the impossible so many times? The answer was always a G-2. Little Known Fact: When Ghandi died he had only 10 possessions. 9 of them were Pilot G-2s and the 10th was a tracking number for ink refills from Amazon. Stephen Hawking can actually talk. He's just speechless after experiencing the unmatched brilliance of the G-2. What was the secret behind Mother Theresa's kindness, enlightenment, and peaceful tranquility? She owned a Pilot G-2.Read more ›

I am a connoisseur of sorts in stationery, and have been for as long as I can remember. I enjoy writing longhand for letters, notes, journal-keeping, etc., and I'm always on the lookout for a better pen -- ballpoint, rollerball, fountain...any will do.
Well, I discovered Pilot's Extra-Fine Gel-Ink pens about 3 or 4 years ago, and my search is over. I have tried other new and different pens since then, but I keep going back. Nothing compares, and nothing surpasses them, even expensive varieties.
These pens don't require a scribble to start the ink (or to restart it when you pause for a thought), they never skip, they never get ink globs around the point (a common pitfall for gel-ink pens, and fine-point pens in general), and they always write a smooth, clean line. I've even found they will write upside-down, like the Fisher Space Pen does, so they're also great when a wall is your only flat surface to jot a quick note!
Other available colors include purple and green, as well as standard black, blue, and red! These pens are refillable too, so they are ecological AND economical. I have also started using the G2 refills in my more expensive pen barrels whenever they fit, since the cartridges that came with those expensive pens are horrible.
The ONLY negative thing I can say is minor: the first time you use it, it may be a little scratchy until you wear the point to your angle of writing, but this "breaking in" is over quickly.
If you want a pen that makes handwriting a pleasure, this is the one for you!

The cure for cancer will undoubtedly be mapped out using this pen. It can and will double as a blow-gun should you ever find yourself in a Berlin back-alley without one. It is lighter than helium and can run a 4.2 40. It has a well adjusted sense of self and can write haikus without sounding out the number of syllables on its fingers. The rubber of this pen is made at processing plants with a 'zero' eco-footprint. If this pen were human, Alana De La Garza would be his girlfriend and Dos Equis would have to stop running those ads about that lesser man. The designer of this pen retired the second after he designed it having simultaneously reached his career pinnacle and achieved individual enlightenment at the exact same instant. If this pen ran Facebook, there would be no more design updates and it's daily Twitter posts would be original, ironic and hilarious. If I were stranded on an island and could only take two albums the first would be OK Computer and the second would be this pen. In summation, allow me to say this, I was once lost but now I am found thanks to the Pilot G2 Retractable Gel Ink Roller Ball Pen, Fine Point, Clear Barrel, Blue Ink.

Style Name: Ultra Fine PointColor: Black
Hands down, this is my favorite everyday pen. It has a lovely, extra fine line - probably finer than any pen you've used before unless you're out there searching for ultra fine tipped pens all the time. It delivers a dark, quick-drying ink, and I've had no problems with fading, smudging or bleed-through. I must emphasize that this is a truly extra, ultra, superfine tipped pen; if you're accustomed to and looking for a regular "fine tip" on a pen, this isn't what you'll want.

Another reviewer had problems with previously handled papers rejecting ink (presumably from the oil our fingertips can leave), and though I haven't experienced the exact same problem, I have noticed that the super fine tip can clog or cause "skipping" on smooth, almost waxy paper. This isn't a problem unique to the G2, and I find that drawing long, straight lines on average weight printing paper, with the tip at 45 degree angles, can help to re-loosen the ink flow. I haven't had problems with leaking at all, but I sometimes find that the pen body has started to unscrew itself if I've been writing or sketching with it for a long period of time. Maybe I unconsciously twist the pen in my hand as I draw; I don't know. It doesn't bother me terribly.

I haven't seen anyone else compare the ultra fine options, so here's my take on it. This pen (the Pilot G2) and the Uniball Signo RT are both good, quality .38 mm gel pens, and fairly interchangeable. The Signo has the benefit of the waterproof, secure ink, but delivers a more grayed, faded line than the G2, which is a solidly black line. Neither smudges easily, nor bleeds through, but if you're using very thin paper, the Signo's grayish line might be the safer choice.
