Fantastic for soft boiled eggs

I prefer soft boiled eggs over hard boiled, over fried, over poached, over any other eggs. But I hate watching a clock to time the egg. This egg timer allows me to have PERFECT soft boiled eggs everytime. It will take a few trial eggs to get the color change just right but when you do, you merely boil the fresh egg and wait for the preferred color change. The egg timer will last for about 3-5 years before it will need replacement but for those years, you'll have perfect soft, medium or hard boiled eggs.

Reading on tombstone: Here lies a good egg, one that was more delicate than a soft boiled egg

Fairly easy to read and seemed accurate to some degree. Wish it was a little more durable though. Had it a few weeks only before my 2 year old got hold of it and dropped it from her high chair. It cracked in half. I'm just glad the yolk didn't splatter everywhere because my 2 year old doesn't know how to use a mop, and neither do I. So sad, I was just getting used to using it too. Will probably get another after a proper burial and short mourning period.

As a side note, I didn't get the weird smell from it that others complained about.

Terrible smell, not sure if safe to use

Piece of junk. Smells terribly when in boiling water, I don't even know how to describe the smell but it's like a chemical factory and makes me want to lose my dinner. I boiled it like 5 or 6 times with a hope that smell will go away but it never faded. I'm not even sure it's safe to use because this smell means there are some chemicals going into water you're boiling eggs in. Now it's in the trash where it belongs.

Leaves a strong chemical smell.

I purchased my last one at a crate and barrel and it was great, but after 4 years I needed to replace it. This one left such a strong chemical smell I can't see how it is safe to use. It also did not turn black it turned white which was really weird.

Magic Egg Timer

If you've never used one of these timers you won't believe how easy to use and accurate they are. Just drop it in the pot with your eggs with cold water, turn the burner on and when the color reaches the line for how you want them cooked - soft boiled, medium, hard - they're done. We used one for several years until it finally fell apart and we went looking for another one. I was doubtful any replacement would measure up to the old one and the price listed by the Meco Co was so low it didn't seem possible. I ordered two - figured it wasn't much of a gamble and I was amazed at the speed they shipped and their follow-up communications. The timers arrived here [Oregon] faster than many of our local suppliers and at no shipping cost. Unbelievable, what a bargain!

Essential for boiling eggs

When I first got one of these as a present, I thought it was just a gimmick -- can't you time it like everyone else? But hey, I love boiled eggs (and deviled eggs, etc.) so it was worth a try.

The thing is, the timing is different if you're boiling a few eggs versus a lot of them. Since this "cooks" at the same speed an egg does, it really allows you to boil them *perfectly* no matter how many you're doing at once.

Soon this little device became absolutely essential for me, so when my first one (a different brand) started to crack, I had to order another one right away. This replacement has been "eggsellent" ever since.
