My 5 year old daughter bought this for herself. She needed me to show her how to do knots a couple of times, but once she got it, she was able to do the project mostly by herself. She doesn't read well, so I had to help her through the instructions and occasionally show her how to hold pieces together while sewing, but she did 90% all alone! I think depending on the age of the child, and how ambitious they are (ours is very much so) this would be good for someone between 5 and 10 years old.

I bought this for my ten year old daughter for Christmas she just loved it. We had a wonderful afternoon of sewing together. It was a perfect project to introduce sewing to her. We worked on the large dog about 3/4 together but then I let her finish the rest without any guidance from me. My daughter was so proud and excited when she finished them both up that she took them to play with her American girls. I would definitely would buy them again.

The kit itself is good. The needle that comes with it is near impossible to thread with the thread they provide. It frays every time you try to thread the needle. Plus, if they were expecting that kids were doing this, and the holes are already pre-made in the patters, why not provide a plastic needle?

I got this for my 8 year old daughter. She tried another one when she was 6. she needed lots of help. tried again at 7. still needed help. but now, she is sewing away on her own. This is a great way to introduce kids to sewing. very satisfying to have a great looking project at the end.
