I was extra excited to get these on subscribe and save. Idahoan are the only instant potatoes I can find without wheat ingredients. And these ones are my favorites, but all the other flavors are really good, too. You can even see the red skins -- add a microwaved potato for "lumps" and no one will know these are instant. They are that good. The bonus is that you only have to add water -- not water, milk, etc. Just 2 cups of boiling water and butter if you like, but they don't really need it. The parmesan and garlic flavor is subtle and really good. You can dress them up or just eat as is. We do both. One of our favorites is to make the potatoes as directed and spread in the bottom of a greased pan, then sprinkle with cheese and add 6 raw scrambled eggs, onion, green pepper etc. on top and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Makes a great breakfast casserole. Also good on top of a bowl of chilli or stew.

These are so good, the buttery taste seems authentic. You wouldn't guess they spring from flakes rather than mashed from a fresh potato. The texture is perfect, and they are so easy to make. Come out perfect every time without spattering the microwave. It is hard not to eat the whole package worth in one sitting, so these potatoes are best shared!

Just like mom used to make

I like these. Maybe it is because when I was growing up our mashed potatoes were instants unless it was a special occasion. When you open the container you can smell the butter and a couple of minutes later you are tasting creamy potatoes. I am still working out how much extra water I need to add to get them to the consistency I want. With these containers I don't have to worry about potatoes sprouting or a bulk bag if instant potatoes growing devils before I get around to using them. I would take exception to there being 1.5 servings in a container though. But I think the serving size in the nutrition facts label is all based at having calories and sodium come in at a magic number rather than how much the average person consumes at a sitting.

Better in "mixed" recipes than as a standalone side dish

I admit that I am not a fan of any instant mashed potato brand, but this one is pretty tolerable when used as a component of a dish. Completely simple and fast to prepare, this is a good staple to keep on hand in your pantry.

My kids like to eat it as a standalone side dish, but I prefer these potatoes mixed into a recipe (topping off meat-and-vegetable casseroles, for example). If you're the type of eater that combines a bite of meat, vegetables, and potato on your fork, then this product will be just fine for you!
