I've had this Qi receiver for my S4 a few months now, along with their Koolpad charger, and in general it works well. I have an excellent Incipio DualPro case on my S4, which is only a couple of mm thick, and surrounds the phone.

My main concern about this unit is the temperatures it generates. I charged my S4 from 80% to 95% today, my IR thermometer measures the case as 43 degrees, with the ambient temperature 23 degrees. Yesterday it got up to 39 degrees. Battery University says 45 degrees is the maximum allowable temperature for charging a LiIon battery, beyond this is unsafe ([...] If you put the phone in your pocket at 43 degrees you really know about it, it feels very hot, though it cools quickly if left off the charging pad. Compare this with charging via plugging into a USB socket, where the temperature barely rises. High temperature will also reduce the lifespan of the battery, and can't really help the rest of the phone either.

Further research has shown that the more radios you have on in the phone (GPS, WiFi, 3G/4G, regular phone) the hotter the phone gets. If you put the phone into airplane mode the temperature rise seems to be relatively small. This is especially important when you're charging from 50% battery or below, as it has more time for heat to build up. It's possible to automate turning radios off using the Android app "Llama". If you have a rooted phone you can even have it go into airplane mode automatically when charging, and come out of the mode when you take it off the charger.

While this is a convenient device I do suggest some caution is needed in its use.

I installed this on the S4 Verizon model SCH-I545. It works very well and charges at 640ma as reported by the Galaxy Charging app. There was a slight bulge in the case so I removed the foil covering from both sides of the card coil and this helped somewhat, removing these foil covers is recommended for those wanting the NFC functions of the phone to be uneffected. After removing the foil there was still a slight bulge. The bulge at this point may not be a factor for those using a thicker case but I have a very thin protecting case (JL316) and the bulge kept the phone from lying perfectly flat on a desk. I removed the rear cover and measured the thickness of the plastic using a micrometer, it's .028 inches. Using a small rotory sander I slightly sanded down the thickness in the exact area of the rear cover where the charge coil would make an impression until it was about .025". This solved the bulge problem and the small change in the cover thickness over the coil area didn't effect the cover integrity. Some users may decide to slightly modify the thickness inside the phone case to maintain a perfect flatness.
One other note, after peeling the foil covers off both sides of the receiver card there is a good amount of very sticky adhesive left on the coil. If the adhesive isn't removed it will create a problem since the battery will be 'glued' to the receiver and the coil will be 'glued' to the cover, trying to remove the cover with everything glued together is not easy as the battery will be pulled when the cover is pulled off. I used a solvent (Goo Gone) to remove as much adhesive as possible to prevent problems in the future.
One more note, I've used both the Koolpad Qi charging pad and the GMYLE Qi charging pad. Both charge at the same 640ma rate but the Koolpad doesn't get as warm, If the phone is slightly missaligned on the GMYLE pad it gets VERY warm. On the Koolpad the temp will still rise but stay less than 101°F.

This Qi Wireless Receiver is by far the thinnest I have seen! I have previous purchased the Metrans Qi receiver, and as soon as I installed it, I noticed a very noticeable bulge when using the OEM back cover. When you lay the phone on a flat surface, it does not lay flat due to the bulge in the middle. I am also using the Neo Hybrid case, and it's very annoying.

But this Qi receiver is truly thin! Easy to install, just align the 2 contact points, and peel back the 3m double sided tape (very very thin) so it sticks to your battery. The back cover is easy to close, and does not have the bulge like the Metrans receiver. It does have a very very minor bulge, but not very noticeable. I was able to use my Neo Hybrid case, and lay it flat on the surface, and it does not feel the phone is moving when typing on the screen.

Over all I give this Qi wirelss receiver 4.5/5 star! If you don't want "any" bulge on the phone with Qi receiver, you will probably have to buy the OEM Samsung back cover with receiver built-in (but the cover is thicker, and does not fit the Neo Hybrid cover properly).

I installed it on my Galaxy S4 Active. I was afraid that anything bulky would interfere with the water resistant back cover. Shouldn't had worried; this little receiver card is thin enough that the case shut tight after the very simple installation.

Next, I was afraid that the rugged case that I have covering the phone would interfere with the charging. Sure enough, laying the phone centered on the charger did not work. The culprit was the little kick stand designed to allow the phone to be set up at a viewing angle. It took less than a second to move the phone a little off-center and the green light on the pad lit up and the phone message popped up saying that it was in wireless charging mode.

I think that wirelessly charging the S4 Active is a must. The phone has a little tab covering the micro USB port. It seems to me that daily fiddling with it could increase the chances of breaking it, leaving the phone not so water resistant. Besides, even if Samsung has engineered the tab to be rugged enough to last through the warranty, wirelessly charging is just darn convenient.
