Great amp for the price.

I bought this to augment my system, or perhaps replace a Pioneer GM-D8601 mono sub amp. I have an Alpine Type-R dual 2ohm voice coil 10" and a Pioneer shallow mount 2 ohm 10" that actually compliment each other quite nicely. I'd purchased the Alpine to replace the Pioneer, but it plays much lower so I was missing out. When I hooked the Pioneer up as well, it filled in where the Alpine was lacking. I was pretty surprised that they worked so well in tandem.

I was running them parallel on the GM-D8601, with the Alpine's voice coils in parallel, so the amp should have been seeing a 1.5 ohm load. It played fine, got plenty loud, but I wanted more impact. I figured this MB Quart amp, with it's supposed 1000 watts RMS at 1 ohm, would give me a little more oomph from the somewhat less than sensitive Alpine. Running both subs off of it netted me LESS output than I was getting. So, I went through my system, upgraded my grounds (I was just in sheet metal, I did some digging for a structural bolt, and replaced the crimp on aluminum ring connectors with heavy duty copper grounding lugs), and ran a separate dedicated 4 gauge power wire to it. Right now I am running the Alpine on the MB Quart amp, the Pioneer sub on the GM-D8601, and my fill off of a Pioneer GM-D8604. I'm getting much more output this way.

It seems this amp is more sensitive to ground quality. It also gets quite a bit warmer than the Pioneer D-class amps; not sure why. All in all it hits nice and hard with no clipping where I have it set now, and I don't see any voltage drop. For the price it’s a good amp. I’ll also note that it was listed as used/good condition. What I got was a new amp in the factory wrap, documentation and accessories in the factory packs, brown boxed. There was no evidence the amp had ever been used. If it was a refurb, it was a very good refurb.

All in all it’s a good amp.

Rocking amp when done correctly

Have this baby measured with an O-scope for 0 distortion at max volume and it is doing quite well. Don't have a dB meter, but good low notes will have my windsheild vibrating and the outer dash for the wipers about to come off. It puts out as low as 10 hz, so it can really play those LOWS. Is currently on my 2 Polk MM 10's which are meant for 350RMS, but pushing 500 at both on 1 ohm is not hurting them and is MUCH louder than my last amp.

In short, wire these suckers at 1 ohm, put your sub/s in a sealed box so the Low notes don't break your sub, and listen to the power this thing puts out. Would buy another in a heartbeat.
