Great adapter! I am finally able to make calls again using my PC headset on my Lenovo ThinkPad (T420). The laptop has a single plug (mic/audio like cell phones) but most decent PC/Gaming headsets come only with dual 3.5mm plugs (one for the microphone and the other for the sound). Works perfectly and much cheaper then some of the other adapters like this I've seen.

I had purchased this and an Audio-Technica Lavalier to try to find an alternative for the new Rode SmartLav.

I tested this with three phones:
1) iPhone 3GS - Didn't work
2) HTC Inspire - Worked
3) HTC OneX - Worked

After searching the internet for possible reasons the adapter didn't work on my 3GS, there are two possible problems:
A) The 3rd and 4th pin are flipped (the Mic and ground could possibly be reversed)
B) Level of resistance on the lines were incorrect.

Since I can't find a whole lot on 'B', I'm leaning more toward 'A'. I haven't tested it.

Basically, out of the box, I don't think this works with a 3GS, seems to work on newer Android HTC phones.

I purchased two of these for use with two different sets of headphones. One of them functions perfectly, I am very happy with it. The other functions intermittently, probably due to a loose connection somewhere. This leads me to believe that there's an issue with quality control. Until this is resolved, it's hard to recommend this item with a 50% success rate. This is a new item on Amazon, so I am hopeful that the quality will improve with time.

This won't work with my Motorola Droid RAZR M - the plug is physically too long for the phone's jack. But it DOES work with my iPhone 4s.
I rate this with 4 stars because despite the lack of use with my Droid RAZR M, it does work with my iPhone (which was my primary need) and it's priced lower than the alternatives that you could buy. If there were other options priced as low then I'd give it 3 stars.

I haven't had it for more than a day so it may wear out (per some of the negative reviews), but I have used it to connect my cheap $15 Logitech computer headset (with separate Ear Phone and Microphone plugs)Logitech Stereo Headset H130 - Cloud White (981-000345) to my iPhone 4s, and the sound was very good and I was told I could be clearly heard, and thus I have a comfortable hands free option (I don't like the Apple ear buds that come with the iPhone - I don't like any ear buds, I prefer a headset).

If I encounter issues over time, I'll update this review - but I will be careful of not trying to stress the cable so hopefully it will work for me for a long time. If it lasts 6 months, then I'll have gotten my money's worth out of it.

My phone and laptop detect that a microphone has been connected but it just records static. Head phones work when using the adapter but that works without the adapter as well. Too much hassle to return given the price. Might cut it open if I get bored to see what is wrong.

UPDATE: Cut the cable open and did a conductivity test and found the microphone was not even connected. My friend is going to try and resolder the connection for the fun of it, but I already bought a USB audio adapter to replace it.

Cheap and easy solution! Want to use your PC headphones on your Xbox One? This worked for me using the XBox One Stereo Headset Adapter. Plugged the PC headphone into the green, the red mic into the "orange", then the black into the XBox One Stereo Headset Adapter. A firmware update later, and I'm golden. Can turn down TV or Stereo volume and still hear game audio through headset. (Still haven't tried mic, may need to disable Kinect mic to get it to work properly). Also, this works GREAT with my iPhone 5! Plugged my PC headphones and mic into the adapter, the adapter into the iPhone, and presto - great headset mic!!!

This device allows you to combine a microphone and stereo headphones into one 3.5 mm combination audio jack. I needed this to connect a stereo headset with a boom microphone to my Lenovo laptop, which only has one audio port. Also works on my Samsung phone.
