This brush would not stand up to a cast iron pan on its best day. In reality it looks very different from the picture shown, where the the bristles look short and very sturdy. Actually, the inner circle bristles are pliable plastic, the outer steel bristles are very thin and bend easily. Upon opening the package, several bristles had already bent backwards just during shipping. I would return the item, but it's subject to a 15% restocking fee and I would have to pay for shipping; not exactly worth it for an $8 item. Just disappointing.

We have a dutch oven, 2 fry pans, a reversible griddle, & now an aebelskivver pan, all in cast iron. We use this little brush to clean all of the above while running hot tap water on the pan. I really go after it, scrubbing quite hard if I have to. A final hot water rinse, shake it off, & wipe dry with paper towels. While the pan is still warm from the rinse, I rub a little Crisco shortening on with another paper towel.

I've had the one fry pan & the dutch oven for 40 years now, & have been treating them about this way all that time. Older daughter, who is just starting out in her own apartments, is envious about how "slick" the old cast iron is compared to her new pan. It's just gonna take a few more years of treating it right.

Be sure to look for this product at your local hardware store or supermarket, rather than paying freight from where ever.

It's perfect for my cast iron. I've been looking for a brush for the job and saw this one. It's perfect. The flat scraper on the end of the brush is an added bonus I didn't notice when I bought it.

I bought this brush to clean my cast iron. It doesn't scratch and it does a good job. The plastic bristle brushes I use for my dishes just didn't have the oomph I needed for the cast iron. This works great and I like that I can hang it to dry and keep it handy above the dish rack.
