I have no major complaints with this refrigerator after owning it for six months. It seems much better made and much better designed than my previous $8000 GE Monogram built-in which was a pile of junk (beyond belief awful in almost every way).

Let's start with the PROS. The counter depth is wonderful if you have narrow countertops and don't want the refrigerator sticking out past them and into your kitchen workspace. A really cool feature that works great are the fold up shelves that enable you to put very tall items into the refrigerator either temporarily or permanently (e.g. a turkey or wine bottle). There's a surprising amount of usable space (much more than the absolutely awful $8000 side-by-side GE Monogram). The refrigerator is amazingly easy to move in and out of its space for cleaning and servicing thanks to well-designed wheels that don't damage flooring (in my case, hardwood).

CONS: That said, there also are several issues that are consistently annoying. First, as others have noted, the angle of the spigot on the water dispenser makes it difficult to use for any container larger than a drinking glass (e.g., a measuring cup or SodaStream bottle) and even with drinking glasses you have to be pretty careful or you'll get water all over the place. Ditto ice dispensing. In addition, removing the ice dispenser bin from the refrigerator for cleaning or dumping is extremely difficult to do. The worst feature of the refrigerator that I've run into is the so-called replaceable water filters. First off they're ridiculously expensive (list price about $55.00 each). These items need to be replaced every six months so the cost over the life of the refrigerator is significant. Worse yet, the filter housing is very, very picky.

Overall this is a good refrigerator, but found two issues with it.

1) The water dispenser tube squirts the water to the left. I tried bending the tube center but it keeps going to the left.

2) The Crushed Ice button keeps turning itself on. I set it to Cubed Ice and it will change to Crushed Ice on it's own. Once it did this in front of me, but most of the time it does it later during the day. When I called Samsung Tech Support they suggest I turn the Child Lock on, which does prevent this issue, but then you have to turn off the Child Lock to use the water or ice dispenser.

UPDATE: Now a new issue happened, it started leaking water from a vent above the middle drawer. Lots of water all over my floor! A repair guy came out and said the fridge has to be replaced. Shut off the water from the wall to the fridge and after a bit it all drained out and stopped leaking. I've only had this thing a few months and already problems. I'm beginning to rethink my choice in buying a Samsung.

rust spots have started to appear on the 'stainless' steel fridge doors and freezer doors. Contacted Samsung and they said that it was a cosmetic issue and therefore not covered under the warranty!
what use is a warranty if a stainless steel door rusts after two months. Really terrible customer service. Always had great products in the past from Samsung, so thought the fridge would be good, but turned out to be a terrible, very expensive mistake.

also the ice production is poor, way less than my old fridge I used to have and the veg crispers are tiny, not large enough for a regular shop

We bought this refrigerator from Home Depot and we bought it because we wanted a countertop depth size. We had heard of Samsungs 'good' reputation and reviews of the product. There only two of us and we felt that we could easily make this work. So it is nice, and there are a few quirks, like anything else, however, From day one, the ice maker never worked. We read the documentation and went through all the steps to make sure the problem was not caused during the installation. Turns out we had a few problems, and we fixed them all. We were told by the delivery folks that we had to run about 2 gallons of water through it to make sure the pump for the ice maker would work. So we did, and them fix something else, and try it again. We finally decided that we had to call Samsung. The folks were great but they told us we needed to run 5 gallons of water. Through multiple conversations, we made sure we ran through all the steps to make sure everything was correct, and at the end the put me through a tech rep. From there, everything went downhill. After the first conversation, I could barely stand it, after the second one, we were told that the problem was not caused by Samsung but by the delivery team. Please keep in mind that this whole process took about 2 months, and the fridge was still not making ice. We finally contacted Home Depot and they took charge of the problem, and dealt with Sansung. We did get it fixed, but it took another month. Now the ice maker works, but it is pretty lame. When dispensing ice, it throws it all over the place. There are two settings, one for cubes and one for crushed. Makes no difference, it all comes out crushed. Most of the time, we have to wipe the floor.Read more ›
