This is about as simple as you can get... set it and forget it, which is exactly why I needed an automatic garage door closer in the first place! The one feature that I'd love to have, though, is a button on the sending unit to temporarily reset the timer so I don't have to scramble all the way back to the inside door where the receiver is located if I'm working in the garage and it starts beeping warning to close in 1 minute.
It only has settings of 5 minutes, 15 minutes, and 6 hours also. We tried 15 minute setting at first, but that was long enough that after we got home and went inside and settled down, our dog would get all excited about "someone's in the garage to visit!" when he heard the door close. So we had to go back to the 5 minute setting.

Update after 3 months of ownership:
Now, after 3 full months with this product, I have a complaint... the single AA battery in each unit doesn't last very long! I've had to replace the batteries twice now in 3 months. The main unit has a "low battery" light, but it's not clear if the light comes on because of low battery in that box, or in the remote sending unit, which also has a single AA battery. And changing the battery is a royal pain because to get to the battery you have to take it off of the wall (unscrew two screws from usually fragile drywall mounting ancors), and then you have to remove two more smaller -- and easier to drop & loose in a garage! -- screws from the back of the unit before you can get to the battery. Would it have added that much to the production cost to make a removable, *front side* battery door ?!

Update #2:

Update: About six months ago My Magic Closer, after 18 months of reliable service, began to fail. I noticed that the lights had periodically begun flashing in a diagonal pattern, this was occasionally, not all the time. I had not moved the unit or done anything to it. So I replaced the batteries, making sure to do it in the correct order, but the condition continued and the batteries were draining very quickly. This has gone on since last fall and all I have accomplished is using up a lot of batteries. I even tried relocating the garage door sensor to different top areas of the door but it doesn't change things. And YES, each time the batteries were changed in the correct order and with fresh ones. I must therefore conclude something has failed in the unit, and because of that I no longer recommend it. I'll give it two stars only because it was serviceable for 18 months, but I certainly wouldn't buy it again.

This works as intended but I'm only giving it three stars because the batteries lasted exactly six weeks. The battery warning light is so tiny it wouldn't be noticed. Replacing the battery in the main unit is a bit of a pain. I'm trying the more expensive lithium batteries to see if they last longer. I also wonder about rechargeables? This isn't a "don't buy" review, just be aware it gobbles batteries.

Update: The manufacturer sent me an email about a week ago and said that they had upgraded the product so it was no longer a battery hog. All I had to do was send it to their location, they had it back to me within a week with upgraded hardware. For my trouble, they also sent a very nice eight piece screwdriver set. So I upgraded the review to five stars. Keep supporting these new start up companies, they care about their customers and that is the best way to grow a business.

I looked at all of the install/user manual stuff for Magic Closer, Garage Butler, and Garage Guardian before buying. Garage Guardian has an easy installation, but I really didn't like having to listen to the beep-tones to figure out how it was configured for automatic closing. Disabling/enabling process seemed less intuitive because of the beep-tones. Garage Butler has convenient buttons to configure the automatic closing behavior, and it has the benefit of not requiring batteries. The catch is that the installation process is more complicated, and other Amazon user reviews reveal that individuals had to do all kinds of custom-rigging to make it work for them (or to make the installation look clean).

Magic Closer took me 5 minutes to install. That's it. I have a garage door that has Security+ on the wall door, but the instructions made it clear what I needed to do. Magic Closer does take AA battery for each unit, but the product documentation suggests it will last a year.

My advice is this: if you want zero battery upkeep, go with the Garage Butler, but be prepared to spend a lot more effort to install. If you want an easy install, and don't mind the yearly battery upkeep, get the Magic Closer.

Two problems with this unit:

1 The battery only lasts 4-6 weeks.

2 It's a pain to change the battery. i have to remove 2 screws and pull the unit from the wall, which is connected to the button with a short wire. Then, with the thing dangling from the wall, I have to remove two more screws to access the battery. And the way its made the screws go right into some plastic bosses, so you have to apply significant forward pressure with the driver the entire time or you strip the heads on the screws.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could just pop a cover off the front to change the battery, you know, like every other battery operated device on the planet.

At this point I've given up and it sits on the wall, unused, with a dead battery in it.

When I get around to it I might find a AC/DC adapter and wire it in permanently.

UPDATE: 9/30/2014

A few months ago I got an email from the manufacturer. Big Ideas offered to update the software to address battery issues if I was willing to cover shipping one-way. So I did it. When I got it back it came with fresh batteries and an all-in-one screwdriver (as an apology of sorts, I guess).

I got around to installing it a few weeks ago. Twice I've had to pull the battery on the main unit to reset it because it lost communication with the satellite unit. The units are less than 10 feet apart. It would be nice they built a reset button into the side (or tool-free battery access on the front). Yesterday I went into the garage to find it had lost communication for the third time in less than a month. I'm done. The bottom line is that I cannot count on this thing and will not be using it.
