So I just got around to setting up my desk which I got on Black Friday. Everything seemed alright, I got to the box that had the glass in it. It was labeled "Box glass." Cool, they took the time to separate the glass so it didn't get broken. These guys know what they're doing. Nooooooooooooope. The glass is packed TOGETHER, meaning they are stacked on top of on another without any styrofoam or bubble wrap separating them. Now I have 2/3's of a desk because these bozos didn't know that when glass isn't separated right it breaks. And what do you know, this particular desk is sold out on Amazon so I can't ask for a replacement. Like I'd want one anyway, it would probably be packed the same way. Thanks Altra Furniture.

I should have read the reviews. The table came with all glasses broken because Altra/ Cymax simply does not know how to pack a freaking glass table. I spent the next 2 hours picking up glass in my brand new apartment. Furthermore, the table was missing two crucial parts which bring the table together. Bad buy and hopefully they will refine me my whole money.

This desk was selling for a good price (nearly half off) when I bought it near black Friday, but I should have looked more carefully inside the large and extremely heavy box when it arrived, instead of assuming it was okay and just wrapping it for Xmas morning.

When that day came a month later, we found the desk structure was just fine but the glass that made up the top of the desk was just a bag full of tiny broken glass bits that weighed several pounds. Of course, the key part to a desk, no matter how modern-looking and easy-to-assemble is the top part of it being there to put all of your stuff on. Otherwise, it all just falls to the floor and defeats the whole purpose of having a desk at all. What I am getting at, is that the glass is what makes the desk work and to package such critical components in such a haphazard way by the manufacturer for cross-country shipping seems to indicate that ALTRA Furniture is either unaware of the special needs of a breakable substance such as glass or simply does not care whether or not their customers receive an item in a usable condition. Either way Altra is not very altra-istic (and may be staffed by monkeys or other primitive animals with opposable thumbs but no working knowledge of how to pack fragile items for transport.)

Of course, Amazon's customer service is superb, and contacting a customer service representative (who could NOT send me a replacement, as this item had long been sold out) netted me a full refund and (after I pointed out that Amazon could probably spend its money in better ways than by paying the return postage to send themselves a large cardboard box full of broken glass) there was no need for me to pack up the incomplete desk and send it back to them to do so.Read more ›

It was much easier to put together than I anticipated; plus it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than the exact same desk offered at the local office max store closing sale. After years of huge, solid wooden desks, the light look of glass is refreshing, and offers plenty workspace without the cumbersome weight of my old passive mahogany desk. Drawback is lack of storage. I use a beanbag chair under the desk as an ottoman so I can keep my legs elevated. The glass is in perfect shape.

Instead buy Futura glass desk, Wouldn't recommend: VERY cheaply made.... I was looking for a desk that didn't have a center leg so you could easily use the entire surface of the desk but even so, the planes of glass are not even at all level... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see very lazy and sloppy welds... I would absolutely return this in an INSTANT, but guess what happened next!? The screws stripped out, so I guess this wonderful example of cheap craftsmanship will just stay at this house after I move.... Look up the FUTURA glass desks, and deal with the leg, I've bought many of those and they are great. The Screws haven't stripped in years, the glass is still beautiful blue. Ameriwood - :(
