In all honesty, this game would have benefited from being single player. The fact that there are people all around you doing the same thing you are cheapens the feeling that you're actually doing something that affects the world. I'm being praised for killing a vicious beast, but I turn around to make sure I've gotten all the loot before I leave, and I see that it has respawned. It's just makes everything I'm doing seem pointless.
The dungeons are just straight shots with very little--if anything--to explore. In Skyrim and Oblivion, I could spend more than an hour in each dungeon going over every little crack and crevice, making sure I've picked up everything worth taking and just enjoying how well designed they were; they were much more fun when I was taking my time to get through them.
The game is beautiful, yes, but honestly, that's about all it has going for it. Don't get me wrong, the game is fine, and I like mmos (like Neverwinter, it's free to play on the xbone, it's great) it just isn't very immersive, which is something you need for a true Elder Scrolls game. But that's because Bethesda wasn't the one to develop it.
In short, unless you really like mmos, I'd skip this and wait for ES6, it's about time for them to announce the next one.

I'll open this review up with a disclaimer: I've never played an MMORPG before buying ESOTU, and I had never played any ES games until Skyrim, so those of you gnashing your teeth and screeching "n000b!" at your monitor while downvoting my review will not be wasting any more of your own time. You're welcome.

This game is pretty fun and I like the open world aspect but even moreso than single player games. The graphics are fine although the characters look a bit odd at times and the gameplay is fluid even though there are multiple menus needed to really get into the game. There haven't been any major issues with connectivity aside from twice the game has suddenly reloaded the map (downtime of approx 3 seconds) and I haven't noticed any glitches, so whatever Zenimax and Bethesda did to address the multiple early complaints must have worked. I don't plan to buy the premium subscription since I'm going at my own pace here. For those of you who want to bling your character up immediately upon firing up the game for the first time, hey, have at it, hoss; for me, I'm just going to chill out and leisurely move across the map, occasionally swearing as I miscalculate my own reflexes.

In summary: this is a solid, well-maintained game that promises a lot and seems to deliver. You can't ask for much more than that.

7/24/2015 - There is one thing that's kind of annoying, and that's the fact that when you're on a mission you can just follow the herd of other people working on that same mission, so it kind of makes it less of a surprise.Read more ›

Anyone with common sense would know that server and log in issues were bound to happen on launch day. That shouldn't justify coming here day 1 and giving this 1 star. I have played that game a decent amount today to give it 4 stars. If you like the Elder Scrolls universe you will like this. Just try not to compare it to Skyrim, it's quite different. I just like being able to explore the different areas of Tamriel which is what makes the game awesome for me. It will be cool to see the areas of Skyrim that are in the game but I am more interested in the other areas. Tamriel unlimited is a fitting title indeed.

******UPDATE*****
Now that I have played the game for a good bit I have decided to bolster my score up to the full 5 stars. This game is just awesome. I have found that today has been my best run and I have gotten booted once. No error 318s or anything. Yes there is that random lag, but I haven't had the one where I run like 20 yards and it lags me back. All in all I have had a fantastic experience. The game is deep with all sorts of new lore in the Elder Scrolls universe and as I may have previously mentioned the game's best feature is being able to see areas from literally all the provinces of Tamriel. You have multiple areas in Morrowind, multiple in Skyrim, multiple in Hammerfell, and the other provinces as well. MMOs are usually a grindy game and my only other experience was Destiny, take it or leave it. Usually MMOs come with all sorts of classes and abilities. In ESO you got all the races although the imperials are behind a stupid paywall, but I prefer the others over them. For me I right now have kajhit night blade on the North American server and a Nord dragon knight I believe on the Europe server.Read more ›

My main problem with this game is that it still plays like a single player game, I don't understand why this is online.

Also, I think Bethesda went wrong with the voice chat. Text would be much better. The problem is all of the foul mouthed snots running their mouths or playing gangsta rap in the background at full volume.

I quickly resold the game before the inevitable price plummet.
