This replacement filter fits the Aprilaire 400 humidifier and is cheaper (including shipping) than purchasing from aprilaire's website (even though they have free shipping).

That being said, this replacement filter is grossly overpriced for what it is. Clearly a profit center for Aprilaire.

I have ordered this part before and have had no issues with this seller. Product arrived quickly.

It's easy to criticize, but often much more challenging to praise an item. These little beauties do exactly what they're supposed to do - first time, every time!

Until we discovered these, both Madame Breva and I suffered from dry, scaling skin that would pile up in drifts in the hallway each winter until it looked like we'd had a huge indoor blizzard. We were so plagued by static that we were unable to touch anything without first grounding ourselves on the lightning rods we had placed in every room (total cost of installation $30,000 plus tax!), and our toenails had grown to over six inches in length because we couldn't bend over to cut them without risking a life-threatening nasal hemorrhage due to dessicated mucous membranes. The uber-parched state of Madame B's nether parts was ghastly!

Finally, on what must have been our tenth visit from the fire departmentt in two years due to recurrent conflagrations caused by the friction of our feet across the bone-dry floorboards, a veteran fireman asked us why we didn't put evaporator pads into our whole-house humidifier. Humidifier? we asked. Basement? we asked. The kindly fireman led us down to the mysterious region under the stairs, showed us the contraption he had referred to, and the rest is history.

Now Madame B and I are plump with hydration. The hygrometer reads a balmy 90% humidity and we are dewy with joy. We look upon a new world through the streaming windows, a world full of possibilities. Thank you, friendly fireman, and thank you, Ecobee!

This media pad/panel evaporator is of fiber construction, works well, but not as efficient as the metal Aprilaire panels. The model 45 can be cleaned of mineral deposits via: White vinegar; tri-sodim phosphate; or a Citrix product. The Aprilaire 35 water panel, of metal, clay coated, transfers the water vapor quicker than the 45 model, saving furnace run time and electrical costs. Lower priced clay coated water panels do not match the more expensive Aprilaire models.

There are no better panels for my 400 series humidifier but I had to take a star way because they only last for about 45 days before they dry out.
I expected that a two pack will last all winter but I was wrong. I have a water softener and thees pads still get some sort of build up at the bottom and stop absorbing water.
That is the only downside.

There's not much to say about the filters. They are the manufacturer's replacement unit and do their job. The service from Filters-Now was very good with fast delivery. I won't hesitate to order from them again, either directly or through Amazon. The price seems high for a simple paper and metal filter, but it's clearly a profit center for the manufacturer. The price from this vendor was much better than from others I found.

The local hardware store carries a third-party product that fits the Aprilaire 45-series humidifers, and I think that one works better than the Aprilaire-branded one. The third-party one I bought is all paper, and maybe it works a little better because it has more absorptive and evaporative surface without the metal? I don't know. They might not last as long as these, either. But my goal was to get maximum humidity, and the Best Air ones did better at that job than the Aprilaire 45 did, so I knocked a star off this product.

I struggled with drum style furnace mounted humidifiers, trying to find replacement evaporative drum media (basically sponge) for models that were obsolete in a couple years, and always leaked as the shut-off mechanism never quite shut fully off. Then after finding parts the motor would die.

Needless to say, I was looking for something else ... but limited choices as I have no basement drain. I installed a Aprilaire unit based upon recommendations of a friend in the business and it runs great, the media packs are reasonable, and readily available, and the thing doesn't leak.
