The production value is off the charts horrible, and the interviewees seem to have been given approximately 30 seconds lead time before the cameras started rolling as they fumble through answers. They sway through anecdotes like they're wading in frozen Jello. For such an interesting man in Philip K. Dick, the producers managed to find a collection of the least interesting people on the planet to talk about him. In addition, all the scenes were filmed with what appears to be the lighting equivalent of a 24 hour Denny's bathroom fluorescent lighting scheme. The cut scenes look like they were made in Mario Paint by a millennial with remedial artistic skills who's never heard of Mario Paint and who is also not equipped with the Super Nintendo mouse but instead trying to draw with the Dreamcast fishing rod. Just read the Wikipedia page or any of his stories instead of wasting time on this potato filmed miscarriage.

As a PKD fan, I was intrigued enough to watch this so-called documentary. It was not that interesting and I didn't watch it through to the end. The background music was totally unnecessary and annoying, the crudely made and slow graphic animation that was repeated many times, in order to present a fact was a distraction and some of the interviewees could have been left off this project altogether as they didn't really have much to add. Just having known someone doesn't necessarily mean that you have anything to say.

I'm not sure I want to read or see an exposé about an author with all the lurid details of their life in order to enjoy the books they read. I would have been satisfied with a background movie that would have been leaned more towards the artistic and literary aspects of the author. In the case of PKD, his life and lifestyle did influence his writing, but it wasn't all autobiographical. there could have been more a discussion of his writing style, etc.

I found this movie to be tedious, meandering, somewhat juvenile, amateurish in production and most content.

I wouldn't bother with this unless you are a PKD fanatic and feel the need to know everything about someone, warts and all.

Poor production quality. The sound recording/editing was horrible and muffled half the time. The music was always there instead of used as an accent. The graphics of the typewriter typing out information are tedious and look like they are there to pad out the movie (especially the opening credits, I mean, get over yourselves guys). Had to stop watching after 20 minutes, just couldn't take any more. :(

An awful amount of cut-scene nonsense makes this nearly unwatchable. Much of the documentary is the same cartoon typing at a typewriter, for the sole purpose of presenting what would normally be on-screen text. Some of the information presented by those interviewed is interesting, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. This is not a well-crafted documentary.

I'm not a die-hard fan but I love documentaries and this is just not up to par. Not sure if it's just old, low-budget, or both, but the sound was muffled, very hard to understand what people were saying and the pacing, editing and sequence of clips were all awkward and didn't flow well.

A good effort, but did not go into his works enough (at all?). This short
had potential, but comes off as an intro to what it might have been.

Not only did it not penetrate his works, but any actual philosophy
he may have had is barely referenced. If you want more of what this title
promises, just read Dick's ground breaking writings.

To be fair, it's not easy to do what "Gospel..." attempts, since Dick's been gone quite
awhile. The interviews are valuable though. I raised my 2-star initially to this
3-star because we need more of these about authors, but with broader and
deeper content. Still, I'm glad I saw it. Keep at it RW!

I am not sure when most of the footage was taken. It looks a bit old. The entire documentary is the type where the makers sit quietly behind the camera, during the movie anyway, and friends and colleagues of PKD give their opinions and feelings about his life and death.
I found it to be informative. There was a repeating feature I didn't care for much where they have a cartoon figure of PKD mouthing sound bites from, most likely, the tapes of the Rolling Stone magazine interview.

If you are a fan, or would like to know more about PKD, it's worth watching.

The folks who made this had their hearts in the right pace but WOW is this slow in parts and looks amateurish. One example. They take forever to type out a 3 line message each line takes a page they show being typed in cartoon form. Please just print the whole thing out quickly. Some of the interviews about PKD by his friends are terrible boring reminisces. One woman is laughing hysterically as she tells her anecdote about how funny he was and it's NOT that funny. Those moments are difficult to take and it meanders along with no build up. Philip K Dick was a GIANT talent and deserved better than this. Valiant try but unworthy.
