THIS ALMOST KILLED MY DOG!!! $2000 vet bill. Do not use these. Why are they so dangerous?
* Barbell shape is bad design. They eat the first half leaving a thick flying saucer shaped disc that tends to be gulped and highly likely to obstruct. Longer flat treats much less likely to lodge.
* the same textured surface which is supposed scrape the tartar away makes it very difficult to pass the object through the esophagus if it gets stuck. The vet had to push from the topside with an oversized endoscope while trying to work it past the opening into the stomach.
Vet bills aside, my dog and suffered for 7 hours before could get him to a vet that had the tools to work on him. This was not yucky tummy suffering, but rather vomiting intermittently saliva that would not go down, chocking on the sticky substance that the treat formed, struggling to get air, wrenching and whimpering in pain. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED!

You will note other reviews of dogs getting sick on these. Filed a claim, but going on month 3 with no resolution. Had to give it a star in order to post this.

as we opened the box, unsealed the bag and she got a whiff of the PetSafe indigo Fresh Floss Bones, Small in the Medium size. Because she's a small dog, I cut one in half and presented her with one. She didn't move for forty minutes while she gnawed at and eventually devoured her first half of a bone. Zhaba is a Shih Tzu with a very sensitive stomach who receives Trader Joe's frozen green beans as treats directly from the freezer. She eats them as if she were munching on a T-bone steak. She gets few other snacks of any kind, so receiving this bone was special. As with any chewy bone or treat, we always watch her to be alerted with any choking hazard. This bone was large enough, even when cut in half, for her to hold on to with ease, and it softened as she gnawed and salivated. There were no stains left behind and no mess on her fur. Additionally, she had no problem digesting this bone and it moved through her with a minimal change to her deposits on the lawn (color difference only). SEE UPDATE PLEASE! Because of her sensitive digestive system, she will be receiving these no more than 3 times a week, regardless of the recommended daily amount. I actually like the larger size cut in half and will purchase these again.

UPDATE: I had to reduce my rating to two stars from five because poor little Zhaba has puked up every half bone (2 times) she's eaten since the first. She was a bit constipate after the first half, but relieved herself in the afternoon rather than the morning, so I wasn't concerned at the time I wrote the initial review.Read more ›

This is not a product that I would have normally purchased, but decided to give a try via an Amazon promotional offer.

First impressions: This package of "Medium" Floss Bones contains six bones, of the "Natural Chicken and Blueberry" flavor. Each bone is about 4 inches long, heavy and dense with a hard rubbery texture, and a blue marbled appearance. The smell is not disagreeable, but by human standards of odor and presentation . . . these things are not at all appetizing.

My test subjects: a Chihuahua mix and Rat Terrier mix, both well fed and spoiled. They are older dogs, but both still have good dental health. This type of treat is a whole new cuisine category for this pair.

Results: Amazing. After a few seconds of investigatory sniffing, they had both assumed the position (for chewy treats, that is lying down with the bone held vertically between forepaws) and were attacking vigorously and with obvious pleasure. I just checked back about a half hour later - they have not let up in their enthusiasm. The terrier is about 75% done and the Chihuahua only about half that, but the attack is unabated. Their gums are irritated and red from the vigorous activity, but I interpret that as a positive in this case (for gum and teeth cleaning and exercise).

These bones are purported to be grain free and easy to digest, and promote healthier teeth and gums. I'm not going to reproduce the list of ingredients here (starts with tapioca, potato starch, glycerin), but it looks wholesome enough and nothing set off any alarm bells for me. Made in the USA.

It clearly appears that these "bones" are a great hit with both our dogs and provide a good dental health contribution that they really seem to love (if that changes, I'll definitely modify this report accordingly). Looks like this product is going to have to be a regular part of our treat cabinet.

These have an odd smell to them. I have 2 Cockapoos (27 & 23 Lbs). They were able to chew them up in less than 10 minutes. The first listed ingredient is tapioca. I gave these as an after dinner snack in the early evening. I thought it was very strange that both of my dogs immediately fell asleep after finishing the treats and remained zonked all evening which is not at all typical for them. At about two in the morning I awoke to the sound of my larger dog vomiting. It appeared that he vomited all of the bone, but none of his dog food. The bone was primarily in jelly bean sized pieces or slightly larger and all the vomit was very gooey. My other dog never vomited but did seem to have a decreased appetite for the next two days. I think I'll stick to just brushing their teeth and giving them Milk Bones which they love and tolerate.
