First and foremost, this is a Canon brand grip. It is much more durable than other off-market brand grips. This type of grip comes at a bigger cost though. I've used a photive BG-E8 grip for my T4i until it stopped working. The build quality and feel of this grip compliments the design of the 70D and fits perfectly. For users with big hands, this is a necessity. The buttons work as advertised and I am able to shoot portrait style shots comfortably. The 1/4" thread on the bottom works perfectly as well. There is an included battery tray for which I have inserted two Wasabi LP-E6 batteries along with my original Canon. Also provided is a Double A battery tray which I have not tested yet. Overall I'm very pleased.

This battery grip from Canon for the new 70D camera is magnificent. It fits seamlessly onto the camera and the two pieces look like one unit. The camera controls built into the grip are placed very similar to where the controls on the camera are located and using them does not take a lot of getting used to. The included AA battery tray is handy if you cant recharge your regular batteries. It gives you a great backup power supply in a pinch. The construction of the grip seems very rugged and well built. I would highly recommend this grip to anyone who asks imo Canon really nailed this one.

I have all my bodies gripped - 5D Mark II, 7D, and now 70D - all have had official canon grips (tried an aftermarket on the 7D and it ended up causing a short after one venture into the rainforest). I have to say that this grip is every bit worth the admission price. If you are a user of the 70D and feel that it has that "cheap" feel to it being smaller and not as heavy duty, adding this grip WILL make it balance like a pro line camera, and gives it a much better response.
Pros:
- Added balance for gimbal use with larger lenses
- Double battery life (a must for the power intensive touchscreen / video AF)
- Gives it a more secure feeling
- Made of high quality materials

Cons:
- Price is roughly 18% the cost of the body
- The shutter button has the same inferior feeling as the one on the 70D
- Slightly enlarged on the bottom, making it a handful for users with smaller hands

If you are reading this review, you know who you are when it comes to having grips. If you grip all your bodies, you'll appreciate this grip. If you are just starting out gripping bodies, this is a great place to start. Save yourself about 60-100 USD by skipping the aftermarket knock offs and get the official canon the first time around.

I've owned both knockoff versions of the battery grip and the Canon versions. Both perform fine, but the Canon version fits perfectly and really does feel like it is part of the camera. If you have the extra coin buy the Canon version. If you don't, it's OK to get the knockoffs.

Great product, but expensive.

Extended battery life by double, now I can go weeks without having to recharge. Adds extra body to the camera and is a great vertical grip. Though this is more expensive than a generic one (not yet available for the 70D anyways), the quality of the build matches the camera body so it may be worth the extra money for the same finish (my T2i generic grip had shinier plastic compared to the camera itself). There have been no compatibility issues with vertical shooting and the buttons work well with the camera (another problem the generic grips had in the past would they would sometimes have faulty communication with the camera body when using the buttons). This is great for power hungry extended video shooting. Works well with generic batteries.

My 70d works great with this grip . It's perfect with my 150-600 Tamron lens to counter the weight and stabilize the center of gravity. This grip fits flawlessly and it blends perfectly with the body. The buttons work perfectly in the vertical position, and the communication with grip and camera is excellent . I'm glad I did not compromise on quality by getting a third party grip .This is definitely worth spending more on.

If you are serious about photography and use Canon products, than you must have this battery grip for your 70D camera. The two battery compartment lets me shoot more shots for longer periods between charges. It enlarges the camera platform to something that is easier to handle and yet easy to operate. This is a must have for anyone serious about photography.

I placed this battery grip on my new Canon 70d in order to gain more shooting time while shooting video for my YouTube Channel. The fit is flawless. Absolutely perfect. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a battery tray for AA batteries as well as the Canon batteries. What a neat feature. This unit does make the camera substantially heavier but most of my shooting is done on a tripod or a monopod..........................or on sliders or dollies, so the weight isn't an issue for me. When shooting solely pictures, I remove this unit, replace the factory battery compartment door (from it's handy storage slot on the battery grip. Another neat surprise.

I couldn't be more pleased. I will probably buy the A.C. adaptor.
