I wanted a new timer, and when I saw Kitchen Aid made them, I picked this one out. I read the reviews over in the red timer column (and I know color doesn't make any difference, but this black one offered the opportunity to be the first review!) but I was a little confused because of the contradictory nature of the reviews. One said it was quiet, one said it was loud; one said you could set it by holding the button down, another one said you couldn't. I tossed the dice and ordered one. It is nice and heavy, has a nice loud beep to it, but I do not like the fact that you can't set seconds, and you have to push the button for every hour and minute, and the button beeps nice and loud for every one of those, too. Sometimes when I have someone asleep when I need to use it, I go to another part of the house to set the time. I mean, just imagine BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP for 45 or 50 times. Also, unless you are at a particular angle, you cannot see how much time is left and have to move yourself or the timer to see that. I will continue to use it, but I do still drag my old wind-up timer out from the junk drawer occasionally. I would not purchase this timer again. If you ask me, no one at Kitchen Aid ever tried using this timer personally or they would have noticed these flaws.

This is an excellent little timer, I've had it for over a year and it's still working great. The beep on this is very loud and can be heard all throughout my apartment. I like how this one has hours and minutes instead of minutes and seconds like most timers. It uses one AA and I've been using the same one for over a year so it doesn't take much battery, it does shut itself off automatically after a little while of not using it to save battery. The only thing I don't particularly like about this timer is that every time you press any of the buttons, it makes the loud beep noise, the way to get around lots of beeping when setting higher time amount is to press and hold the button then the time will go up without beeping more than once, but that's the only thing. Overall great reliable little timer.

It is pretty much what I expected from the other reviews. It seems solidly built (I've only had it a few weeks). It has a reasonably loud beeper (though not super loud) that I can hear in the next room. It does beep each time the number button is pressed, although if you hold down the button for what seems an inordinately long time, it will scroll up through the minutes without beeping. I chose this model because it does have an hours setting, which many of the other available timers do not. The only drawback for me, which I already knew when ordering this, is that you have to be above it to see the time - I cannot see it from across the room, and cannot put it on the back of my stove where I'd like to have it, but must instead keep it on the counter next to my stove. Also, you cannot decrease the time on the clock - if you overshoot, you have to start over. Otherwise, it is very good.

This timer replaces a cheap simple timer, that still works but looks dated, with this classy looking and simple to use kitchen timer. It's a kitchen timer that works and has a fairly loud beeper at the end of a timed cycle. It will continue to beep for a full minute before going silent, plenty of time to get your attention.
The Black and Chrome finish of my model fits the Black and Stainless look of my kitchen very well. One nice operating feature is after a timing event the display goes blank to conserve battery life. Press a key to set a new timing event and the display comes to life.
Nice, simple and useful. Recommended.

Even tho I have had this for a few years, this is to let everyone know that it really has never worked well.

A lot of times, you set the timer up, and then it goes out on you.

We have changed the battery many times hoping it will work right.

Sometimes it does, but most of the time it does not.

I have finally purchased a cheap little timer - so this one will finally go to it's final resting place!

Indestructible little bugger! I seriously cant believe this thing still works. I bought it 6-7 years ago and have abused it beyond belief, just shy of setting it on fire. At some point it was on my ceramic top stove and I turned on the wrong burner, leaving the bottom of it looking like a box of melted crayons and the battery compartment sealed shut FOREVER now. This was at least 5 years ago and it's still not dead yet. I was not keen on buying another one even though this one has been unsightly to look at. I have also spilled a number of things on it, including hot oil. At one point about a year ago I thought the battery was finally dead and I was going to spring for a new kitchen timer. Nope, came back on, worked fine ever since. Yes, its annoyingly loud, that's what I need in a timer. "HEY YOU, YOUR DAMN FOOD IS BURNING". True, you cannot set the seconds, but it still has them if you want to visually keep your eye on the timer for 30 seconds. It is also a great "time out" timer for toddlers b/c its so loud. They can hear how many minutes you set or set it them themselves, and its loud when its done,there is no questioning the timer in "time out" in my house.
I am stuck with this old battleaxe until it croaks.
