This review is for the Sistema 3.5 Cup Oats to Go Bowl. I had my reservations about purchasing this bowl after seeing several reviews stating that the oatmeal exploded all over the microwave while using this. I bought the product anyway, desperate for an easy morning breakfast solution and in hopes that those reviewers were somehow wrong. Unfortunately, after my first attempt at using this bowl (with 1/2 cup of oatmeal and 1 cup of water, microwaved on 100% power for 2 min and 30 sec), I opened my microwave door to find that the bowl had vomited oatmeal all over my microwave and those other reviews had been correct.

HOWEVER, stubborn and determined to find a way to make this bowl work, I continued reading reviews and found that one reviewer had suggested microwaving the oatmeal on 60% power for 3 minutes. I tried that and- VOILA, IT WORKED. There was no oatmeal overflow and no mess when I reduced the power on the microwave. So really, this is a great product IF you reduce the power and microwave the oatmeal for 3 minutes. If for some reason you still have a problem on 60% power, then I suggest experimenting and reducing the power even more.

I had to return the bowl. I was hopeful that it would be fabulous because I liked Sistema's soup cup. The oatmeal blew out of every crevice and sprayed the inside of my microwave. I thought maybe that I had failed to put the lid on correctly do I tried it again very carefully. I used a half cup of oatmeal and one cup of water. I was sorry that it didn't work and that I had a mess inside of my microwave.

Where do I start, I received this in lime green, and could not be more pleased, this is a smooth plastic surface, and have used this many times to cook my steel cut oatmeal and it does a wonderful job. Best of all the cleaning of this item is so easy. I was so impressed with this item that I ordered the soup mugs, and the vegetable steamer. You will not be sorry, the quality of this company is amazing. The lids fit well and the vent to release the steam is truly an asset. No more mess in the microwave oven. To say I recommend this sistema products would be an under statement. So glad it is made in New Zealand and not China.

Perfect for me. I have Essential Tremor and can no longer eat from a plate. I can no longer use glass or ceramic dishes because my shaky hands involuntary and constantly move and tap the side of the bowl. The plastic somewhat muffles that tapping/clanging sound. It's not as embarrassing for me when I eat around other people.
The lid helps to keep the food from spilling when I walk to the table.

I have purchased other products by this company, and liked them very much. Especially the soup cup. Use it all the time at home and work. As for this product, well, if you really want to cook oatmeal in the microwave, get the Rapid Oatmeal Cooker by Rapid Brands. It works perfectly every time and no fooling with microwave power settings and no explosion or mess. Other products by Sistema are worth having, so don't be afraid to shop, but read the reviews. Pass on this one though.

I really love the Sistema Klipit family of plates, cups and bowls. I purchased the Sistema Noodle Bowl almost a year ago. I used it for oatmeal, soups and reheating of stews and casseroles, but if it was in the fridge for the next day's lunch I was out of luck to using it. I am a klutz and forever dropping things and I really hate it when stuff boils over or splatters all over the microwave. I had a knee replacement that failed and blew my leg open from the knee to just above the top of my foot. Thanks to medics and helicopter staff taking me quickly to the Medical Center I had my surgeries in, an fantastic surgeons who not only saved my life, they saved my leg too. Due to some weakness I use a rollator for balance and can put my meals on a tray and wheel them from the kitchen to the living room when I am alone (my husband died unexpectedly three days after my leg blew). I love using this for oatmeal or grits for winter breakfast and cold cereals for summer. I love the strong clips that keep the lid on firmly and the steam vent that you leave open when cooking to release the steam. I can then close the vent do that on the very rare occasion when I drop it, or it falls off the table, I don't have to clean the light beige carpeting. The oatmeal comes out fine with no boil overs. This can be used to heat up other food like vegetables, pasta, or stews or casserole leftovers. Any of the different pieces can be used for multi purposes. These are made in New Zealand with safe plastics. They are very well made and I have never had a problem with any of them. I have purchased the Medium Plate, the Noodle Bowl, the soup cup and this Oats To Go Bowl.Read more ›

I got so frustrated with this thing, just like many others have. And just like many others, I have never used the power setting on my microwave. But, this makes all the difference in the world with this handy device! I am glad I went back to read some reviews before putting this permanently away. I love steel cut oats and yes you can make them in here. I put my steel cut oats and hot water (because I have access to it) in, snap on the lid, make sure the vent is opened...and set the power button to 60% for one minute. And then when it's done, I let it sit for a few minutes while I'm doing something else important, like drinking coffee. If you don't use hot water, you'll probably need to add additional time. BUT...DO NOT PUT IT IN FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE AT A TIME! I did, and it made a huge mess like before. I also think that letting it sit for a few minutes is important as well. So, before throwing it away and giving up, try decreasing the power. I love how my steel cut oats turn out now. And when I'm done, it's a breeze to clean! And most importantly, no mess to clean in the microwave!
