I bought these about 6 months ago and I haven't regretted it at all!

These headphones are made for gaming! When someone fires a shot or an explosion happens on the battlefield, I can accurately tell where the shot game from. And hearing enemy's footsteps is a breeze. Idk how many times these headphones have saved me from getting knifed due to being able to hear the foot steps of the person behind me well before they can knife. Also, tracking someone is a lot easier due to being able to hear every little sound the enemy makes. I have nearly tripled my knife kills since using the headset. Oh, and did i forget to mention that they are very comfortable. I can wear for them hours on end while gaming or even just watching TV shows and I don't feel a thing. I honestly forget that I'm wearing them half the time. The top of my head doesn't get sore, my ears don't burn up or become numb feeling due to the grip of the headset. The A40 is worth every penny!

Keep in mind, this headset is designed and geared toward gaming! It will not shine the same way it does when playing most kinds of music as it does when gaming. The reason this is so, is due to how the speakers are designed and tuned to handle sound recreation. I will let you on a little secret, high quality headsets are designed to fit a specific style of sound recreation. This is why they sound so amazing playing sounds they are designed to handle and not so great for other sounds. They are just like shoes, you buy running shoes to go running in, you don't wear nice dress shoes when you go run.

The A40's have AMAZING sound quality. Takes gaming to a whole new level. Very comfortable and easy to adjust, though my ears get a little hot after extended wear.

Pros:
-Sound
-Comfort
-Durable (despite the plastic construction)
-Adjustable
-Inline volume control is great for those clutch moments when you need volume boost to hear someone coming around the corner.

Cons:
-Price ($164.00 after tax and free shipping was pretty steep)
-Ears can get a little warm after a while playing (expected with over ear headphones)
-Boom Mic has a low output, requires a gain boost via windows/mac mic utilities.

Overall, I highly recommend the A40's if you can afford to spend the money.

Reviewing this after a year of after purchase+use.

A little background, I am a tech geek and a hard MMORPG/MOBA players. I decided to get the A40 after seeing it advertise on twitch streams. So I bit the bullet and bought it and was not disappointing at all. My main factor on this is the durability, I have dropped these countless time and the cable getting stuck in the drawers and its still working. SO a 10/10 on durability.

7/10 Mic: The Mic isnt as good, the sound output it a little low for Skype(main), but on Teamspeak and Ventrilo quality is pretty good. I do love how it changing on either side.
9/10: Sound: The sound is crisp and clear, better than beats. Bass is good but, not like Bose quality, Treble and Mids are good. Headset responds well to multiple sound sources, I can listen to: Spotify,Current Game, and Twitch Stream and 100% distinguish all sources without them overlapping each other and losing quality. The Headset volume control/mic control is a bouns to.
Quality: 8/10: I would give it a 10, but the mic cable provided is pretty flimsy and tends to twists a lot, maybe a breaded cable would been a better investment.
Comfort: 10/10 I can wear glasses and beanie or hat and 100% comfortable. The over ear and cushion makes 8 Hour+ doable.

Overall, I highly recommend this to any, ditch the Razer ( I used the Chimera and Characrias) and the Astros destroy them. THey are also stylish and look super geek while wearing them!

Finally, a comfortable PC Gaming headset that looks and feel good while offering great functionality! What I hate about Razer's headsets is how much bass is added to the sound. The Astro A40 has a much more balanced sound. While its not the greatest sound quality for music, for games it is spectacular, and it handles normal music just fine.

My biggest complaint is sound leakage, or sometimes called the bleeding effect. This has been my main problem with headsets in the past. Unfortunately, the A40 does not fully escape this problem. When you are on Skype, or any VoIP client, the user on the other end should NOT be able to hear what you are listening to in your headphones. The A40's handle this fairly well, but the issue occasionally arises if the user does not talk for a long period of time.

The biggest problem is the hardware mute button. It plain and simply doesn't work. A mute button should COMPLETELY cut off sound coming in through the microphone. It just doesn't. It quiets it down considerably, but if you speak loud enough, the person on the other end will be able to hear you. Besides that, these headphones are great, I highly recommend them. Worth the money, although they really should be priced cheaper due to the issues I described above.

While I absolutely love this headset when its working, it tends to give me troubles... a lot. Apparently, this is a common problem with the model. People in my clan asked if I was using A40's.. and I was like "how'd you know?!". Evidently the crackling and terrible connections are very well known on this model. Wish I had known before I bought it. I've sent it in to Astro for repair after only 1 month. Like I said, they are awesome when they actually work.
