In the weeks leading up to the official release of his new album it has been possible to listen to all the tracks in their entirety on his official website, with Wariner commenting on each song. I took advantage of this opportunity, and played the videos several times. At first it felt like a stylistically diverse album, but repeated listens led me to the belief, that the album is not as incoherent as one might think the first time around. The CD has arrived, and I've played it nonstop. I like the harder rocking stuff like the title track and "It's Called a Brand New Day." But there are also the old familiar ballads that he really excels at. There's room enough for a lot of tasteful guitar playing on many of the songs - acoustic as well as electric. This album really grows on you. Wariner hasn't lost his touch as a songwriter and guitarist, but he is also willing to try out new and unfamiliar ground musicwise, and that's very gratifying.

Simply put, if you are a Steve Wariner fan, you will understand how much "weight" the next sentence carries.

It is Steve's best release since "I Am Ready." (I believe that says quite a lot).

When Steve Wariner makes a new album – and this one is the first of new songs in about six year – he counts on his family. His wife Caryn is Production Assistant and you will find sons Ross and Ryan playing or doing orchestrations too. Oh, yes, let’s not forget his brother Terry on percussion. Wariner has his own studio outside of Nashville and this allows him to sing, plays various guitars and provide his own backing vocals on some of the tracks of this new 45-minute CD. He had a hand in writing every one of the songs, with co-writers on most, but not all, of them. In Nashville songs are often written buy “committee” and Wariner has some well-known “committee members” here – including TWO named Anderson. The most prolific country songwriter in history – Bill Anderson – helped on “I Want to Be Like You” and “Big Al” Anderson (also a member of NRBQ) on “Voodoo”.

There’s variety on the song styles too – while staying pure to the “country” idiom. “Arrows and Airplanes” is Top 40 Country Radio-ready. “’49 Ford” has Wariner picking Chet Atkins-style in a tribute to his idol. Everyone will have a personal favorite; mine is “What More Do You Want” (with Ryan doing a great solo).

As to the packaging, it’s pretty simple. The four-page foldout lists the composers and musicians for each track on the inside and a slew of “thank you”s on the back (in typeface that is virtually impossible to read). Wariner asks buyers to go to his website for all the lyrics and for guitar players to visit there to get details on the many guitars he used.

Another fine release from this guy who often flies “under the radar”.

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.

Haven't heard from him in a long time. This album is a great come-back. Had only 2 songs on the whole disc that I wasn't crazy about. "Thousand Winds" is one of those that will stick with you. Anyone that has lost a loved one in death will surely find comfort in it's verses and melody. And he has his usual rockers that show off his wonderful guitar playing.
Buy it - you'll love it!

It's been quite a while since we have had a vocal album by Steve. I love Steve's guitar playing, but I am also a fan of his singing, so this entry is just what I've been waiting for. All songs are written by Steve or by Steve and other collaborators. The title of the album is also the title of the first song. All in all it's great listen with several different music styles. "It Ain't All Bad" doesn't have a bad cut on it. As a matter of fact "It Ain't All Bad" is ALL GOOD !

This CD was sotra a hit and miss with me. Don’t get me wrong it was great having Steve back with some new music. Several of the tracks had a rock feel, which certainly showed off his guitar playing, starting with the opening number, It Ain’t All Bad. I didn’t care for it. Voodoo was pure fun, it’s a catchy little tune that sticks in your head. All songs are by Steve and other writters and perhaps he was showing his diverse writing style or maybe he was being a show off with his guitar playing, which he is entitled to do. After all it’s his album. BUT for me the songs which really hit home and seemed to suite him the best were the country tunes. I loved Bluebonnet Memories, didn’t really care for Arrows at Airplanes. Other stand outs for me were, Spokes in a Wheel, I Want To Be Like You and 48 Ford. Country is what you do best Steve, I hope you stick with it the next time. Someone had suggested this was comparable with his previous CD I Am Ready. NOPE , NOT.

Don't be a bit surprised that this latest project by the legendary musician-singer-songwriter, Steve Wariner is just as superb as all his other albums! Incredible licks, same sweet voice, and such wonderful lyrics make this a MUST have for not just Wariner fans, but all music lovers! Enjoy ... and that's an understatement!

I heard Steve sing "48 Ford" on Reno's TV show. To me, it's the perfect song and perfectly played flat top all in 2 minutes and 44 seconds. I had to have it. Sorry, Steve but I haven't even played the rest of the CD. What a song. Think I'll play it again right now !!
