I watched several youtube videos and read several sites before attempting a the repair of my badly cracked glass on my Galaxy S4. I used a hairdryer. I had a heat gun ready in case the hair dryer didnt work, but it did fine. I went nice and slow on heating up the glass. I am a guitar player and I did have lots of extra stiff picks around that I gathered in case I needed them after I started. I did use them! I kept forcing them in gaps that I created around the edges. I think I had like 7 picks in it at one point.

I then spent the most time cleaning the adhesive off of the LCD/digitizer after the broken glass was removed! I spent at least an hour and a half on that. I've seen some videos that made it look like the adhesive wasn't on there that badly but mine was covered in it. I tried several chemicals. I tried the lighter duty goof-off. I wouldnt recommend that, it didnt really help and I was afraid it was damaging the glass. The best thing I had was actually a formulation of Windex that was one of the eco ones or made with "natural ingredients". I don't have it in front of my here so I dont remember the type, but it worked very well - but slowly... Lots of rubbing with paper towels and my fingers.

I then tried what one video showed where you just put the new glass in place trying to reuse any existing adhesive on the sides. Well the glass wasn't really held in there well. Maybe I removed or messed up too much of the adhesive along the sides. But the worst thing that happened was the touch wasn't being picked up anymore! I tried using the phone anyways for the past week and it was terrible. I was in the process of researching the LOCA adhesives that some sites talk about to basically re-glue the glass back onto the screen. BUT - great news!

Sure enough, the one time I take my phone out of it's protective TPU case, I drop it. Screen cracked and looking awful... I was heartbroken. Luckily, this screen replacement kit exists for situations like this. I have to say that this wasn't an easy process to complete, but with patience, I believe almost anyone can do it. I highly recommend this screen replacement kit. Eco-Fused contacted me with information on how to find how-to videos on youtube (which are invaluable).

I would offer one bit of advice. You really do have to keep heating up the screen in order to loosen the existing glue which adheres the screen to the digitizer underneath. Take your time, use the thin wire provided in the kit and if you get frustrated, just take a break. This really will pay off, trust me!

I did run into one issue, but this was completely my fault. When placing the tape to reattach the screen to my phone, I didn't place it just right and as a result a portion of the screen touches the digitizer underneath. It causes a slight rainbow effect, but is almost invisible when the screen is on (please see before and after pictures)

This kit is really great. Comes with everything you'll need to replace the screen on an S4. I've done three now, and used the tools from the kit each time, buying only the glass for the second and third phones.Read more ›

First, the review - this product came with everything needed, seems excellent quality, not exactly the OEM (you can tell when you put it down that the Back and Settings buttons have the pattern of the black over them...not a big deal, but worth mentioning).

Pros - Good quality, good fit, plenty of adhesive tape sent
Cons - Adhesive tape is _not_ what keeps the glass attached to the digitizer/LCD! If you want the _full_ and complete repair, you need the liquid adhesive that others have mentioned. (However, this can lead to bubbles if you're not careful. Without the adhesive, you have a small gap between the glass and the digitizer. Not sure how this affects performance. I know it works if you press hard enough, but was not able to do a test with a light touch and I unfortunately broke the thing...more on that below.)

A word of advice from my experience:
The phone comes apart quite easily up to the point where you could do a full assembly replacement. (These are the $200 ones you see elsewhere.) The advice to watch videos and do research on the rest of the repair, where you have to de-laminate the glass from the assembly, is worth heeding. When I separated mine, I used a heat gun and worked very carefully. The glass continued to break, but the remaining adhesive keeps most of the pieces together. It's a scary 20 minutes, with a lot of breaks to keep heating. Heat, slide the plastic shims a few mm, heat again, repeat. And the whole time you feel like you're hurting the thing, but you don't know if the LCD/digitizer is being damaged or not.

Bottom line, everything was fine - just move slowly and carefully. And you'll have to keep heating it more after you're done to remove the remaining adhesive with a microfiber cloth.
