I bought 2 of these magnets to use at the top and bottom of a light weight front porch gate. We tested it. One magnet would not have been enough. When in place, you do not have to tug on the gate to open it. They keep my 3# puppy on the porch and allow delivery persons in. Not strong enough to stop larger dogs. My neighbors 25# dog was easily able to paw open the gate to escape. I like not having to fumble for a latch when my hands are full. The magnets came with no instructions. It took a while to figure out how to install them properly. Our gate is not 100% straight (a little warped due to weather) so we had to add a little piece of wood so the magnet would 'catch' at the bottom. The magnetic pull was not strong enough for the magnet to do that on its own. We also needed to use different screws because these weren't long enough. Would I buy this product or another similar product again? Yes
