I have a Lenovo 15.6" laptop, not a Dell, and this privacy filter fits perfectly, so don't be put off by the name of the product. If your laptop has a 15.6" screen, this one will work.

The filter has two sides; the glossy side allows greater image clarity, the matte side is anti-glare. It's your choice, I opted for clarity. The filter comes in a plastic baggie, but don't throw the envelope away! There's a piece of cardboard inside with three blue adhesive strips at the bottom. They aren't labeled, but two of those are what you need. I gathered from the instructions that the extra strip is for larger screen. You only need 2 for a 15.6" screen.

The instructions are fairly crappy. More on that below. The English information is located inside the quadrifold booklet inside. Keep looking, it's there. Once you find them, they're not very clear, although maybe they don't have to be.

Peel off the whole sheet of plastic containing the adhesive strips and set aside. Now, here's where it gets tricky; according to the instructions, it matters which side of the adhesive gets applied to which side of the filter. Well, guess what? Not only do the instructions not clarify which side goes with which, all three strips included with mine had adhesive on one side only. Go figure.

Installation was not nearly as tedious as installing a screen protector on a phone or tablet. Thoroughly clean your screen and wash your hands. Lay the filter on a flat surface, Carefully peel off a blue strip and lay it vertically on the filter against one of the short edges. Smush it down from top to bottom. Don't remove the blue until you've done the same thing on the other side. There should be about a quarter inch of blue that extends beyond the filter on the top and bottom.

I have used Privacy filters when I am out in public or in a restaurant or sitting next to my husband and they always work great. I like that you have to be directly in front of the protected screen in order to make out what’s on the screen. I have never liked anyone reading over my shoulder, which is ironic because as an English teacher, I spend a lot of time reading over student’s shoulders, even virtually.

The sizing for this did not seem right for my PC that is 14 inches. It was too small for my Toshiba, in height not in width. The width was fine. Anyway, I cut it down in width to make it fit a chromebook, which is the one I am most likely to leave the house with anyway.

I still do not like that there are only three double-sided sticky tapes included. I have an older 3M filter – that I still use on my MacBook and fortunately that one had a dozen sticky tapes in it.

At the time that I ordered this screen filter, I'd just started sharing an office after years and years of having it to myself, and I was feeling very sensitive about privacy. But by the time it arrived, I realized that I so frequently need to show someone else what's on my computer that a privacy filter might be more hassle than it was worth. So months have gone by and I've never bothered to use it until today.

What I haven't done is adhere it to the screen. This thing is actually such a good fit with my Dell Inspiron that it stays up without any adhesive, which is pretty cool, and makes it more likely that I might use it because it's not a hassle at all. Other reviewers have mentioned the blue adhesive strips; mine came with those, but also with tabs you can attach to the frame around the screen so you can slide the filter in, rather than sticking it on the screen. Again, I haven't used either since this is staying in place nicely as it is, but if I were going to choose, I'd go with the slidey tabs, rather than the blue strips.

But....I think it makes the screen way too dark for me to want to continue using it unless I feel like I absolutely have to. I do some confidential work, but very rarely in public places, and even with the screen brightness turned all the way up, I find the filter (on matte or gloss) to make it distractingly gray and dull. It's not unreadable or anything, so I'll probably keep this filter in my laptop bag just in case I have a pressing need for it...but I'll be surprised if I ever use it.

Bottom line, this fits very well, offers some hassle-free or low-hassle ways to put and keep it in place, and it's persnickety like a regular screen protector. Of course you will be compromising your own view of the screen, which may or may not be worth it to you personally.

I recently got 2 of these for my laptops. I have both a 14 Inch and a 15.6 Inch Dell laptop that I thought these would be perfect for. Unfortunately I have had too many issues with them and I don't like them for either of my laptops.

Instructions:

For starters, the instructions are pretty bad. There is a small attachment guide that you can't even tell where it begins. You start by looking at pictures under Option 1 and Option 2 but are immediately confused because Option 1 shows the images starting at #3. I kept flipping the guide around looking for steps 1 & 2 which I thought I had a misprinted guide and eventually realized that those steps were listed in tiny little print under the other pictures.

Attachment Options:

Okay so you have 2 options. Option 1 where you can choose to use the adhesive strips and choose either the "matte" side, which is the anti-glare viewing surface, or the "glossy" side, which has greater image clarity. I wasn't sure which side I wanted to view so I wanted to go with Option 2 where you can attach slide mount tabs. These tabs are to be placed on the sides of your screen and at the bottom so that you can just slide the filter in one way or the other and slide it out and flip it around if you wanted the other side. I liked this option so you can change it as you see fit.

Option 2 Failed:

Unfortunately option 2 didn't work out on my either of my laptops. There are picture images to show you what to do but no word instructions for this option as there is for option 1. It looked pretty simple and I had it figured out but if I placed the tabs on the side of my screen, on the casing, it was too far apart for the filter to slide into it.
