This a great safe. It's heavy, as it needs to be, and unlike some similar products, isn't on wheels. While wheels may be convenient, they also make the safe easy to steal. Of course, it can be bolted down - but even if you don't do so, only a well-prepared thief would be able to cart it away.

The safe is over-engineered, rated at 2 hours of fire protection, and it can survive a 2-story fall. Just keep in mind that even if the safe survives the fall, your delicate contents may not. The locking mechanism is an old-fashioned mechanical combination lock, which I consider a plus. Digital locks abound now and they have their advantages, but batteries can die and digital chips can fail. The mechanical lock on this safe is simple and reliable. It is, however, a bit complicated to use and number selection must be exact for the safe to open. Also, there is no way to change the combination - which is set at the factory. Aside from that, the safe is nearly perfect.

Delivery of the safe is a mixed bag. The vendor chosen for NYC has a terrible track record and did not deliver the safe on time, nor even on the day they promised to deliver it. They didn't even bother to notify us of the delay - they were shy a driver and just failed to show up. They also gave my wife a hard time about delivering the safe inside the door rather than outside the door; however, Amazon is just about the only company that sells safes that doesn't just deliver to the curbside without charging extra. Kudos to Amazon for that!

For a little more than I paid for my sentry fire safe, this one is about ten times better built. Still imported, so not top of the line, but a good value in my opinion...especially if you consider free shipping. The freight carrier arrived exactly on time...I couldn't believe it! Although the external box was pretty damaged due to the weight, the carrier waited for me to open and inspect it. Fortunately the safe was...safe!

Just Installed the safe an thought I would share something that might make install a bit easier. If you are bolting the safe to the floor, it is much easier if you remove the metal adjustable shelf supports and then remove the bottom panel of the safe. Makes it easier to get a socket on the bolts.

Very good safe. Steel, no plastic anywhere. Heavy/hefty. Nicely lined. Look on Youtube to see how easily the big box stores' "safes" are broken into (they're not burglary safes). Look there as well to see how difficult Mesa safes are to break into. This is an entry-level burglary safe; not the finest, but very good, and at a much lower cost. As with any burglary safe, it should be bolted to the floor (cement bolts included, but not wood/lag screws). This has the mechanical, not the electronic lock. Mine opened easily the first and all subsequent times. The dial's metal and the motion is solid/smooth; hopefully a sign of a quality lock. Only complaints are 1) a ring and smear, as if from a coffee cup, on the top (into the paint), 2) the logo/pin strip is slightly crooked on the door, and 3) scratches on the bottom. These things don't really bother me, they don't affect the safe's performance nor it's appearance all the much either, but it is a little sloppy. All in all, very satisfied.

This is a horrible safe and the customer service was about as bad. I had the safe for a couple months and the combination stopped working. Contacted customer and the said they could not give me a new safe but could send out a technician. A technician finally came out after I complained several times that a technician hasn't attempted contact me or come out. I think it was close to a month before a technician finally came out. He fixed the combo, great. A couple month's later with little use, the combo has stopped working again. I just contacted customer service. I'm not expecting much help. I guess I'll see.

Seems like a good safe for the money. The dial takes some getting used to, you have to be very precise for it to open. Safe seems lighter than its listed weight, but shouldn't matter once bolted to floor.

I like the fact that it has 4 pre-drilled holes for fastening to the floor as opposed to as little as 1 with some other safes of this size.
140 lbs. of steel.
I also built a box around this to keep out of plain view.
Nice amount of space for everything.
