I bought this because my tv broke and i had an old pc monitor that uses vga only. i needed this adapter to connect my xbox 360 to my vga monitor AND i wanted to get the audio from the hdmi because vga does support audio. i connected my xbox 360 to the monitor using this adapter, turn on the monitor and xbox 360 and it worked how i wanted it to. It doesn't need any external power, it uses the power from the hdmi in. i don't know why it says that it comes with a 3ft charging cable, it doesn't come with it and this uses power from the hdmi and has no port for connecting it to usb for power. the audio works to, i connected it to my audio in on my monitor. the audio sounds really low even when i have the volume at 100 on my monitor, either it is that the speakers on my monitor don't go that high or the audio signal on the audio out is low and weak. if it is because the audio out is low and weak it is probably because the audio through the hdmi is low and weak, then it gets amplified when connected to a tv.

I have an old Sharp projector. It supports 1024 x 786 resolution. I wanted to connect chromecast to it. I connected LinkS active female to female, added a vga gender changer and chromecast to the projector. It didn't work. Then I started eliminating things to troubleshoot. Replaced chromecast with Amazon fire tv stick. It worked like a charm. So I am assuming that there is some compatibility issue with chromecast signal and my projector.
The LinkS it self is built well and does not feel flimsy or cheap. Packaging was good. The vga end has collar around the port. That makes it a bit difficult when the port on tv/projector is at a tight spot.

When I first connected this seemingly well built adapter (LinkS Active HDMI Female to VGA Male Adapter w 3Ft 3.5mm Stereo cable) it worked great! Then about 5-10min into using the screen started blinking off... The adapter felt warm to the touch. The adapter gets hot, screen starts blinking on and off, then off totally. I tried 3 diff hdmi cables, 2 diff HDMI sources (PS3 and PS4) and 4 diff resolutions on each source, all with the same result, works for a short while, then shorts out. So sad it didn't stay working, as it is exactly what I would have needed.

I am ecstatic that this product worked! For weeks I was trying to find the right cable/adapter and thankfully after ALOT researching, I found the right one. I was afraid it might not work as some people said it turned off after being overheated or it just didn’t work right out of the box. I am actually using it to play my Wii U on my pc monitor in 1080p. My monitor doesn’t have built in speakers, so I use external ones. This adapter helped route the audio to the speakers, as unfortunately for the Wii U, this isn’t possible with just a regular HDMI cable. Now I FINALLY have audio when I play in HD! Definitely would recommend this for anyone who wants to play their Wii on a PC monitor and have sound.

Works exactly as described. Note that it takes VGA IN and converts it as HDMI OUT.
FOR EXAMPLE: using your TV as a monitor for your laptop. Your laptop is where you hook up the VGA end and your TV is where you hook up the HDMI end. You will need to tell your laptop to turn ON "dual" or "extended" or "monitor" display (generally you find this setting by right clicking on a blank space on your desktop area in Windows, see NOTE* below for more on this) and you will need to set your TV to the correct HDMI input selection (use the menu or settings button on your TV remote and look for "input" and set it to the correct HDMI number that you hooked the cable to). The USB plugs into your laptop (it provides power to the cable and that is ALL it does) and the audio jack plugs into the "audio out" or "headphone" jack on your laptop (and so any audio that would normally be played on the laptop is played on the TV instead. You can use either the laptop volume control or TV volume control, or both. Maybe you only want audio to play on the TV (since laptop speakers sound bad). Play around with the "audio out" and "headphone" options. Probably one will turn off your laptop speaker and the other won't).

*NOTE that in the laptop monitor settings, you can usually select a "resolution" and play around with 768, 1080 or even higher. My laptop would only display 768 on it's own monitor, but once I turned on remote monitor (not dual and not extended), THEN the choices changed to match what the TV could handle, which was MUCH higher than the laptop! That was a pleasant surprise! Of course, if you select "dual" or "extended" (where the laptop monitor and the TV both display at once), then the resolution choices will only go as high as what the laptop can handle.

Great - IF your monitor can sync to the higher resolution and sync frequency required of this adapter. There are no settings on the adapter, it either works or it doesn't. I have 6 monitors, this adapter worked on one newer multisync monitor and one newer TV/monitor (which has an HDMI input anyway), none of the older VGA only monitors which max out at 1280x1024 @ 60Hz worked.

Pros:
+ very compact
+ great to have the audio split out right at the adapter to wire into speaker
+ nicely packaged box with what little directions you need

Cons:
- should come with a short HDMI dongle so that the HDMI connector on a laptop or especially a Chromebook or Chromebox isn't stressed by flexing the VGA cable
- no older "low" resolution monitors under 1280x1024 @ 60Hz worked with this adapter

Net: When it works, this is a great little adapter. But there are a lot of VGA monitors that don't work. Better to use HDMI to DVI-D or DisplayPort to VGA if you can. The DisplayPort adapters are MUCH more adaptable to different monitor resolutions and frequencies DisplayPort to VGA or HDMI to DVI-D adapter cables are cheap, too.
