This drive is a great deal has a good mixture of features:
- Blu-ray R/W
- USB 3.0/2.0
- Silver (goes well with Mac).
- Inexpensive.

It stands out amongst Amazon's offerings for having that combination of features. Why only 3 stars?
- Drive doesn't have a super high-quality, heavy feel to it that I like my devices to have.
- Cables are permanently attached. This is a big one to me. Not only does it prevent you from using longer/more flexible cables, it prevents you from removing them to store the drive in a bag for travel, and creates a weak point: cable attachments are one of the first things to wear out because the cable itself is constantly being jostled around and tweaking it's attachment to the device.
- Although it says this drive is for the Mac what it should really say is that it's Mac compatible, or at least not Mac incompatible. The fact of the matter is that 3rd party software is required in order to take advantage of the drive's features on a Mac, and I don't really consider that a 100% Mac ready product offering.

Those points aside, I'm quite pleased with the drive and will be hanging onto mine.

Want Blu-Ray playback for your Mac? This is it. Looks just like the drive that Apple sells but this one has support for Blu-Ray while the Apple drive does not. Be aware that you will need Blu-Ray playback software to enjoy discs.

After sifting through the reviews which lack important details with regards to test platform configuration I was finally convinced this product would fill my needs. Now that I have used it I found it to be an excellent product with a competitive price. Its desktop "footprint" is virtually the same size as the Apple SuperDrive and it gets its data and power from a single cable permanently attached to the unit. For some the cable length may be an issue but for any all in one desktop computer it is plenty long. (Nominally 11.0 inches or 279.0 mm long). The disks are automatically pulled in through the front slot and ejection is done through software. Mac users have been used to this for decades. PC users may feel uncomfortable not having an eject button to fiddle with or a hole to shove a paperclip in to manually eject. I’ve used DVD+/-/RW media without issues. (Note: in my experience cheap media disks are usually at the root of burn issues, not the hardware). Blu-ray movie play is smooth and seem transparent to the software I used, which was free from the App Store. I’m sure there is better playback software out there but my needs for Blu-ray play on the Mac are quite small. It lacks any bundled Blu-ray/DVD player/burn software. Don’t consider that a negative since most bundled software is extremely basic. I burned music CD's and DVD’s and have had no issues. I also dual boot my Mac into Windows 10 and it works just fine with that OS, burning data disks (CD/DVD-/+/RW) using the embedded burn software in Windows 10 and Windows Media Player. Last thing to mention is the simple easy to open slim but effective fully recyclable packaging, which may be important to some. My setup: Late 2012 iMac I7, 3.4GHz, 32gb of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB running El Capitan 10.11.2. Toast Titanium, iTunes, Windows 10 (With the latests updates) embedded CD/DVD burn/play software and WinDVD Pro 11.

This drive goes a little too far in imitating Apple equipment, including the utterly insane decision to attach a cheap, short USB cable permanently to the drive. Cables fail all the time, and if for some reason you need to place the drive more than six inches away from an available USB port, you're out of luck. I wish I'd noticed this before ordering; it's going back immediately.
