This is perfect for spring hiking in slighlty cool to warm weather, or if you are in the south like am, year round.
otherwise blocks wind well, fits great and feels solidly built
Wearing the layers I need for the weather conditions along with this jacket I am comfortable, warm and most of all dry.

I like almost everything about this jacket. I have not owned it long (a month), but I have used it on trips to Mt Shasta and Mt Whitney. In both cases it was used as a soft shell to go over my base layer. As a soft shell it fulfilled its function beautifully. I needed decent protection from the wind chill while allowing some breathability for all the heat the body generates while mountaineering. I felt very comfortable in this jacket. It provides minor insulation, but not so much that it acts like a thermal layer.
Also, during both trips we got light rain and some dry snow. In both cases the jacket did its job and shrugged it off. I cant comment on how long the DWR layer will last, but for now it is performing well, and it can always be rejuvinated with other products if needbe. If we got any heavier rain I would have put on my hard shell.
I ordered a Medium and it fits me very well. I would call it an athletic slim cut. Not tight on the body, but snug without baggyness. This is what you want if you will be putting this over your base layer. Also since its slim it leaves room for adding thermal layers and shells on top.
The chest pocket is nice and in a good location. I kinda wish that the hip pockets were a little higher so that harnesses or backpack hip straps dont get in the way of it, but its a minor concern. I like it better the way it is for day to day wear.
My only complaint about the product is that the elastic drawstring that tightens around the hips popped off from the inside.. I am already out of the return period, so I will have to fix it myself. This will involve sliding the elastic back into the jacket and sewing it in place. For that I'll deduct a star. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the value this jacket has provided for the price.

Absolutely love this jacket. It's everything it promises. I'm 6'2'' with long arms and 185lbs, and the large fits me perfectly. The material is great, and really the reason I like this product. It's as thin as a windbreaker, but unlike the cheap polyester of many windbreakers that makes that annoying swishing sound, this is made out of a stretchy, breathable material that has just a bit of weight to it. I'm struggling to describe it, but it feels very nice, I don't get sweaty underneath it, and it doesn't restrict movement at all.

Thought this was a thick softshell, this thing is shirt thin, it does stop the wind, looks nice and is a nice over jacket for a warmer under jacket. Not good for real cold situations but nice as a casual jacket.

Bought this jacket for my husband for Christmas. It is very lightweight and fits perfectly. He went for a run in the rain and the water repelled right off it. He is thrilled with it. Not a winter coat by any means but he is wearing it constantly and come Spring, he will appreciate it even more. Definitely worth the price.

I have bought the Outdoor Research Ferris hoody after reading about it on several gear review websites, and boy I am loving it.
It is a pretty good against wind, protects from light rain, and it is extremely breathable.
Backpacking in summer, and suddenly it became windy and chilly? Ferrosi! (if it starts raining, then I'll put an OR Foray or OR Helium II on top).
Running in fall/winter/spring? Ferrosi! (layers underneath change)
Climbing? Ferrosi!
Skiing in spring? Ferrosi! (plus some wool base layer)
Hiking in winter? Ferrosi (plus Patagonia R1 hoody)
Hiking in spring/fall? You know the answer.
Skiing in 0F cold + strong wind? This gets complicated, but here we go: thin synthetic base layer, thicker wool smart wool, Patagonia R1, OR Ferrosi and a lightly insulated ski jacket (OR Igneo) when it becomes REALLY cold.

This was for my mum, who doesn't like sculpted women's clothes and loved this jacket when I got it for myself. It protects you from the rain and a little from the wind, while being breathable. You can stuff it into its left pocket, after being unfolded it looks wrinkled but that goes away after a some time.

I absolutely LOVE this. It is perfect for those days when a bit of chill wind or mist mandates some final layer over the rest. Fits nicely, has some clever little pockets and doo-dads, and easily slips on and off. A spring and fall essential. Bravo!

fit is athletic, the arms are particularly snug - but for hiking, running, mountain biking and the other activities I use it for, it's perfect. I even wear this under my motorcycle jacket for added wind protection on cold days on my Kawasaki. The material is soft and comfortable to wear all day and it breathes exceptionally well. To be the perfect jacket I just wish it would repel rain!
