This nice bow tie gift box of Butter Stroopwafels from Holland arrived this week and we've had a chance to try them and see what they are like. First of all, let me say, I've never tried this cookie before. So I have nothing to which to compare it. So, my opinion is based solely on my husband's and my opinion.

These cookies come in a nice wrapper. It's not sealed though, just a metal band holding it closed at the twist. I don't know if the cookies are supposed to be crunchy or not. They were not. But I thought that must be because of the syrup in between the two wafel cookies. It is slightly liquid. When you break a cookie apart, beautiful strings of syrup form between the two pieces as you pull it apart. That part is pretty neat.

The cookies taste good. There is a slight hint of cinnamon and a huge hint of syrup. The cookies are very sweet. Very, very sweet. I think I counted 3 or 4 kinds of sugar in the whole cookie ingredients. These definitely are not for the diabetic person. My husband and I both report a decent sugar rush after eating just one cookie. He tried eating 2 cookies last night and gave up after 1 and a half because they were so sweet.

So, if you've never tried these cookies or you already know you love them, these are pretty tasty.

I was intrigued by the photos and descriptions of these sweet treats and decided to give them a try. I had not heard of Stroopwafels in the past, so had no expectations of what they would be like outside of the description.

Stroopwafels are a product of the Netherlands and there is no American equivalent that I can think of. The outside is crispy and similar to a waffle in texture. The inside reminds of caramel candies melted down, amazingly sweet and tasty. These are a sweet treat like no other, very craveable once you have tried one. The caramel is stringy & soft as you break the waffle into sections. If you ever had the waffle cookies with the creamy center, the outside is similar to those with the inside more like melted caramel candies. I would not recommend these to anyone diabetic and would suggest anyone eats them in moderation, as the sugar content was enough to give me a sugar high for a bit.

They come in a nice black box with a cute design on the outside, so would be perfect for gifting without having to rewrap. Inside the black box are two packages of Stroopwafels with ten in each plastic wrapped package. The ingredients are a giveaway to the sweetness of these treats - wheat flour, syrup (glucose syrup, sugar, lecithin), butter, glucose syrup, sugar, eggs, lupine flour, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon. While they may not be the healthiest treat, they are quite delicious.

I am always interested in trying new foods, especially anything sweet. I have never heard of these Verweij 100% Roomboter Siroopwafels (Butter Stroopwafels), let alone can I pronounce the name of this cookie. I can tell you this, these cookies are so good. They are different than cookies we normally see here in the United States, which is sometimes a good thing. These cookies are both a little chewy and crunchy. They are just a little sweet but not overly sweet, which is nice. They go along great with your morning coffee or tea (though I prefer hot chocolate with mine). These cookies kind of remind me of a cross between a shortbread and sugar cookie flavor. I guess they are called caramel syrup waffles in certain areas, which would make sense since they have a waffle-like texture on the outside with just a bit of chewy caramel on the inside. These cookies are definitely worth trying. I purchased this product at a promotional discount price for testing purposes and for my honest review.

If you have a sweet tooth like me, then look no further. These wafels are a wonderful guilty pleasure. They remind you of Belgium waffles, but they are flat. In between the wafels is where the magic really takes place. Ahhh, the sweet taste of caramel. The reason I love these so much is because all the flavors that I love in sweets are found in this. There are two large stacks included in this set. At first sight they look like a cookie and you would think they would be hard and crunchy like a cookie, but when you bite into them and grip that delicious caramel its sort of chewy. Yum yum yum!! My hips and thighs are mad at me, but my tummy and mouth are so satisfied. Black Tie Mercantile has an excellent product line. I have tried quite a number of their offerings and I have never ever been disappointed. These wafels are addicting and I guarantee you'll love them. I received this item at a discount for testing purposes. All opinions expressed are soley mine and have not been influenced otherwise other than the happy growls from my tummy.

I must say my wife and I really loved these cookies. We had never had them before so we did not really know what to expect from them. They were a nice size with a chewy yet firm consistency. There was a layer of delicious caramel in the center that had hints of brown sugar. I can see these being delicious with a hot, steaming cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. The flavor was unique and different than any other dessert I have ever tried. My wife and I devoured and entire package in one evening so they must have been good! The price is a little high compared to American cookies but I realize you are paying for them being a specialty item. I would definitely recommend them as a nice treat during these winter months.
