Alright, the player has finally died on 8/6/2015. That's not a bad run for a gadget that I bought back in November 2013 and has been dunked in the water 3 to 5 times a week for over a year and a half. I did go through about 5 pairs of water ear buds, which is to be expected since ear buds are the weakest link for any water audio device. The plus is that there are now some water ear buds to be had fairly cheaply through Amazon; so buy a spare to have a backup pair on hand. The good thing is normally one side fails before the other, so you get a warning that your ear buds are headed south. =)

Updating my review to highlight this company's commitment to customer service. They have upheld their promise and updated the misleading literature on Amazon that led swimmers to believe the device could count their laps (this and other issues are described further below for those that wish to brave the novella). Stars are up-rated from 1 to 4, because I want people to know that they appear committed to the customer and being honest about their products capabilities. The increase in stars is also because they have succeeded in creating a remarkably rugged device. I have tested mine in water for more than 100 miles of pool time...and this figure is climbing. The device still puts out audio for me at about the same quality as when I first received the item. I am impressed with this little gadgets durability. Think about it. It gets dunked and submerged five times a week for hours and months on end, as well as getting dropped every now and again when wet hands slip holding it. The company definitely did not cut any corners with the hardware that went into the player and people should know that.Read more ›

I have had the unit for about a month and used it every day. I based my rating on the features that were specified and those which were difficult to use or did not work well.
The MP3 player works well after you conquer the buttons / menu. After this initial learning curve, these become your best friend. If you remember a couple of simple rules: 1) The M button is also the unlock everything button, 2) the pause/play button is the select button; then the buttons become your best friend because they don't let you accidentally do bad things while using the unit.
My review will be in the form of Pros/Cons and then some tips and tricks.
Pros:
1) The MP3 function works superbly. The only thing that bothered me was the fact the unit cut off. After I figured out the player had played my entire list, I figured out to unlock the buttons and press play and I was good again.
2) The fact the it is a USB drive makes loading and reloading/adding music simple. And it even has a folder structure capability. Comes in handy if you want to do audio books vs music or different playlists.
Cons:
1) The FM radio does not work inside buildings and the deeper underwater it goes, the worse the reception. (I have not tried it outside yet.)
2) The earbud cord is too short. It requires mounting the MP3 player on an armband or a mask strap. (I assume that this is by design because the unit is only guaranteed to be water proof to a shallow depth.
3) Other people have comments on losing the USB cable, because it is unique. My comment is that if there is any moisture on either the male or female plug/receptacle , the computer will not recognize the device. It declares it as a faulty device and says to replace.Read more ›

I do suggest using a cap to keep the earplugs in or using larger plugs but other than that the Mp3 player performs amazing!!!
there is no interference in stokes with cords getting in the way and unlike having a mp3 payer on your arm it does NOT leave a mark or slow you down. Today one of my Marine Recon friends told me he uses a waterproof military grade phone to swim with and I had him try this instead and now he is planning on switching to this MP3 player !!!

Had it for a little over a month now and it's doing great. I swim a mile 3-4 days a week and I've been using it every time. So with me it's submerged for an hour or longer 3-4 days a week, and still holding up. I swim in a 25 yard pool, and break up my swim into 500 yd. segments, with flip turns at each end. It took me a good few swims to choose which earbud ends were right for me (the biggest christmas tree shaped ones in my case) and now I'm having fewer and fewer of those instances where you feel the water get in your ear and the sound goes out on one side until you stop and readjust things. Even doing flip turns or swimming 50 yds. underwater, it is performing as it should, though sometimes the seal on the earbuds still fails and I have to take one or another out and readjust. But that is happening with less frequency as I've been getting acclimatized to it.

And mine came with earbuds that have a small coil in the cables so most of the cable doesn't really get in the way. I clip this onto the back of my goggles, put the earbuds in and go. If it holds up even a year I'll be glad to buy another.

I only use it to play music and have never even tried any other feature, nor do I intend to. So I cannot review any other feature. And I want to make one little warning: mine gets waterlogged and holds water long after I get out of the pool. I guess it's designed to have an inner, waterproof layer and an outer, protective shell, the one that you see, and water gets between those two layers and doesn't come out without some shaking and mashing of the buttons. So I have to shake it out before disconnecting the earbuds. Heaven forbid you should forget to get the water out of it and lay it on top of your laptop's keypad or something while charging it.
