Laser printing is already much cheaper than ink but this printer makes it easy to fit into a tight space. It sets up easily, prints fast, and one toner cartridge lasts a long time. I would highly recommend this printer.

There are some reviews about this printer dropping wireless connection and I have only seen it once .

I have installed 7 of these. First one was at home in the same room as the router, a ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. Never once has it dropped connection. Second one was at my mothers. Hers is in the living room, 1 room away from her router, a Cisco-Linksys E4200 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router, and a half wall dividing. Hers has never lost connection.

After about 2 months of use she wanted to replace the old big inkjets at her office so I went in to install 5 of these. The server room is located centrally in the building however there is steel mesh in the walls from construction. (The building was built by a company who used old Satellite tracking equipment for trucks). So there are 2 wireless AP's, one in the front and one in the back. Both with different SSID. The first printer was installed in the Receptionists office near the front AP. No lost connection in 14 months. 2nd one was installed in my mothers office with 2 walls dividing her from the front AP. Once again no lost connection.

In the back offices there are the owner, a drafting office, and a sales office. We did not put one in the Sales office since they print way too much. They get to use the huge Cannon ir2200. I put one in the owners office where there are 3 walls separating it from the rear AP. I also installed 2 in the drafting office where 4 drafters share them.Read more ›

After reading all the reviews both pro and con about installing this printer on a MAC I went ahead and bought it anyway. And I did get it to work properly (wireless) the first time on MAC OS 10.7.5. (The USB worked easily also although we no longer use the printer on USB.) Only the first installation was difficult. We have several MACs installed at this location all of which reach their printers over wireless. The other printers all saw the printer and connected flawlessly. So I like this printer for it's cost, size and operating efficiency. Good, low-end B/W laser!

Follow these installations instructions which I found on the Apple site. They work!

The wireless configuration proccess is the same on Mac OS X 10.7 as for Snow Leopard.

Before configuring the wireless connection, make sure to install the latest Software version using USB first.
Any previous version will appear differently and will not work on Lion:

Follow these steps to change to a wireless network in Mac OS X v10.6 and v10.7.

Overheats and cooks the paper. Piece of garbage. Avoid! Outside the 30-day return period by 3 days and Amazon wont touch you with a 10-foot pole. I'll be buying all my (non-HP) printers from Costco in future, not these crooks (bought from Ankar, fulfilled through Amazon).

THE MODEL I REVIEWED HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED so this tread is no longer valid. Late last year HP dropped support for HP Smart Install. I have no idea how the new model (P1102 - dropped the w) installs or functions. Unfortunately the only PDF manual on HP support site is the same for the P1102 and the P1102w AND it continues to reference the Smart Install which is very deceiving.

Since most people only read the negative reviews I just had to post it here so you could benefit from the information herein. HP, PLEASE accept my apologies.

At first I was put off by so many negative reviews. Then I read all the 1 Star Posts. It became obvious that many of them simply can't read or follow instructions. A few of them state "you have to use the USB cable on each computer to install". And I'll bet others did the same and that is why they can't get a solid wireless connection. The instructions clearly tell you to unplug the USB cable during the installation (then you can throw the USB cable in the trash). If you don't disconnect the USB cable when you are TOLD to you are on your way to frustration as the software may not be able to figure out if it is a USB or IP installation.

NOW, I have to admit the instructions are vague about how to install the other computers on your network. So here it is. After the initial installation on the first computer is completed press and hold the X for 5 seconds to print a configuration page. On the page you will find the IP address of the printer.
