I was expecting a somewhat more "compressed" t-shirt, considering others reviews, but actually it fits a bit loose to me. I'm 6 feet x 161 pounds. 39 and 3⁄8in at chest level. Depending on fit I generally buy M or L... More often L. One year ago I bought a classic Under Armour compression short sleeve t-shirt - L size and that is "compressed".

Best Sun Protection Ever

A rash guard, also known as a surf shirt, is a necessity for anyone who needs protection from the sun for extended periods of time. As a guy with very fair skin I burn very easily, even with sunblock liberally applied. Consequently, when I vacation on the beach I have given up trying to use sunblocking lotions and have opted to use Quiksilver's Short Sleeve Surf Shirt. A snug fitting shirt, I ordered a size larger than I usually take (I fit comfortably into a Large, but knowing these shirts run small, I ordered an XL). The effects were immediately apparent. No longer did I have to put effort into applying sunblock lotions, the shirt blocks all the rays associated with sun burning and I now can enjoy the beach much longer, wearing this shirt, than I can when I resorted to using sunblock lotion. I do recommend you order 1 size larger than usual as the shirt is more like compression wear than anything else. Overtime, the shirt relaxes a bit and is easier to put on and remove, but the larger size helps the situation greatly, and it coordinate perfectly with my Quiksilver board shorts. Highly recommend! Excellent product!

Bigger isn't baggier

My boyfriend wears an XL. He ordered an XXL hoping that it would not be super tight and maybe fall more like a T shirt. It's tight. It will serve the purpose as a rash guard-but won't help him hide his tummy. I wasn't surprised by this but he was.

Great rash guard

I bought this rash guard a size larger than I normally wear in t shirts based on some advice in other reviews. The fit is really nice, I had a medium one before and it was getting too tight. This one in large was great.

I was out in the desert and didn't put sun screen past my elbows and had no sunburn. I would recommend this to anyone interested. And don't feel bad about going a size up, they run tighter than you expect.

A Must for Those in Water Sports

Awesome product. I use it for snorkeling and skimboarding. Everyone has that sunscreen that promises 80 minutes of protection, but wears off in less than half that time. It wears off even faster if you're doing some kind of activity like surfing or wake boarding. The chemicals can be bad for underwater ecosystems. This shirt greatly reduced the amount of sunscreen used whenever I go to the beach.

Fit as Expected

The rash guard fit just as expected. We had another Quicksilver one and we just ordered the same size in this. The only issue I had with it is that in this picture the rash guard looks medium blue and lime green. The shirt is actually bright yellow and light blue. Since my husband didn't really care about the color of the shirt and we were mainly focused on the fit, we kept it. My husband is a small or medium usually so ordering the medium in this fit him perfectly. If you are on the larger size of a men's medium, I would order a large. They are supposed to be a bit snug, but it may get a little uncomfortable around the neck if you get a size too small.
