I'm not an advanced photographer or photo editor, but I'd love to be. Corel PaintShop Pro X6 Ultimate may just be the software to get me there!

This video shows you the software; what it looks like, how quickly it moves and a few features. The primary goal for capturing and sharing this video is to show beginner and intermediate users, the Help section of the software which is full of useful information, tutorials, and links to instruction that will help anyone using this software to get better at restoring, refining and creating great photos.

I am very impressed with the speed, ease of use, and features that are offered by X6 Ultimate.

A bonus pack on the 2nd CD (one is an installation CD) includes: Perfectly Clear by Anthentech Imaging , Reallusion FaceFilter3 Standard and Creative Collection brushes textures and royalty free backgrounds. All perks to the package that makes this indeed, 'ultimate' in my book.

You'll have tons of fun with FaceFilter3, which allows you to do amazing things like put on perfect make-up, slim your face, etc... making photos look as good as in any magazine. Beautifying tools, portrait enhancements, expression redefining and photo effects will amaze you!

Perfectly Clear is one stop editing (plug-in found in 'Effects-Plug ins' on the menu bar) for quickly offering up a photo that's picture perfect - 12 corrections in 1 easy step. Bonuses seem to get lost because frankly, there's SO much this software can do.

Graphic design tools, text and lettering for scrapbook projects and web tools for integration which includes rollover effects. It's all in X6.

For advanced users, RAW image files from over 300 cameras are supported, as well as just about any image file you can imagine.Read more ›

A very welcome new feature in X6 is 64-bit support, something lacking in Photoshop Elements, even in the latest version, PSE12.

When you install the program, you have 3 choices: 32-bit, 64-bit and both. "Both" is pre-checked to indicate it is recommended. I have Windows 7 64-bit but I opted for both because I have some plug-ins that are still 32-bit

Other additions Paintshop Pro Ultimate are:

1. Quick selection tools that make it much easier to select an object or area of the photo to which you can give special attention either by drawing a box or using a brush.

2. Athentech's Perfectly Clear plug-in that allows you to make 12 corrections with 1 click. This plug-in is widely used by professional photographers and costs $199 if bought from the Perfectly Clear website.

3. Real Allusion's Face Filter 3 plug-in is great for portraits, allowing you to easily cover blemishes, customize makeup, refine facial features, etc. This would cost you $29.99 if bought from the Face Filter website.

NOTE: Perfectly Clear and Face Filter 3 are only in the Ultimate version of Paintshop Pro X6 and make the small difference in price between the 2 versions well worth paying.

4. RAW support has been enhanced, enabling more control over photo data.

5. Paintshop Pro membership. After signing up, you can download a variety of useful tools and also access some excellent tutorial

When you open the box of the Ultimate version you will find 2 DVD's. One is the Paintshop Pro 6, the other contains Perfectly Clear, Face Filter, and some content, such as brushes and backgrounds. This second DVD is the only difference between the "standard" "ultimate" versions of PSP 6.Read more ›

I've been a regular user of Adobe Photoshop for over 10 years. I still use Photoshop for most of my quick image editing jobs - because I am very comfortable with the menus, layout, and image corrections. But last year I added Corel Patinshop Pro X5 to my software list. I ended up loving the HUGE set of plug-ins and one-click image enhancement macros. This year's new X6 edition adds even more plug-ins! So when I want to make my photos uniquely different I play with the dozens of different macros that Corel has. As you'll learn, some of these same plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop cost more than the Corel software! So it's a deal in itself!

The biggest improvement that I noticed in the X6 version this year is the better menu system. I'm starting to get a lot faster using Corel. This gets me using the software more often. I'll be curious to see how much I continue to use Adobe Photoshop as the year moves forward.

The bottom line is for under $100 you can't find a better image editing program!

For those shoppers looking for image editing software, my advice is:

-- If you only edit images on occasion and just want to re-size, perform white balancing, or leveling - then GIMP is a free imaging software that will work for you. GIMP is fully loaded with all the fundamental correction abilities that a basic image editor will require. And the software is free. Keep in mind that GIMP runs slower than Corel and Adobe... and doesn't have the plug-ins or cool macros. Of course you can also use the online editing tools like Flickr and Picasa.Read more ›
