I've used many types of head halters for dogs over the years. There are several features that I like about this one. The little bit of padding over the snout is a nice touch. There is a good amount of adjustability, in the neck strap around the dog's head, as well as the snout strap to which a leash is attached. Once fitted properly, it is very easy to put on and use.

The cheek pieces aid in keeping the halter in the correct position, no matter the breed of dog. The cheek straps are low on the dog's face, so no worry about the strap rubbing the eyes. The improved design also helps to keep the halter in place in the event a dog backs up or tries to get the halter off by slipping the neck strap. There is a safety tab with a snap that clips to the dog's normal collar, so in the event a dog DOES manage to slip the halter, your dog is still attached to the leash. And yes, it is recommended to use that "Safety Link" to provide extra security.

The sizing is generous. I usually have several sizes on hand for classes and for demos. Although the large size listed the breed I was buying this for (Rottweiler), I found that the medium size was a much better fit. The instructions for measuring are clear. Go by measurement rather than breed, as each dog is different. Now I have a medium and a large, but that's just more equipment options in my trainer box of tools.

If your dog has already been accustomed to wearing a head halter, there should be no problem adjusting to this one. If your dog has never worn a head halter, introduce it slowly, and with lots of treats, so it becomes a positive experience for your dog. Some dogs will rub their nose, or paw at the halter, if this is a new experience. This head collar is effective if your dog pulls on the leash.

I have a slightly older version of this that doesn't have the reflective strips, but otherwise it's essentially the same as the one listed. I got mine for my 75lb American Bulldog. She is all muscle and pulls incredibly hard if she gets excited. She used to make my shoulders ache. I got this for her and it completely kills the pulling.
I only trust this head collar because it is contoured, adjustable, and well padded on the snout. The padding was incredibly important to me for her safety (bulldogs are brachycephalic and I didn't want to obstruct her airway further). The price was also great and I've machine washed it without problem.

The only downside to this collar is that my girl HATES it, even after a year of using it. She used to run from me when she saw it, but after giving her tons of treats each time I put it on, she tolerates it. She still rubs her face on legs and sometimes crotches (Sorry man at Petco that got headbutted in the genitals by her...) to try and get it off.

Also, I will say that this collar has caused some issues in the way that perceive my girl. She is in the pit bull family and people tend to think it's a muzzle and are frightened by her. This collar does NOT prevent the dog from being able to bite/drink/eat.

All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend this to any dog owner.

My dog is just a Sheltie, not a German Shepard, well that's what his papers say. This 35lb. dog could pull a sled to the North pole if I would let him. I had been trying for almost 2yrs. now to get him to walk and not pull my arm out of it socket but I failed. I tried everything and I was really worried about his and my safety. The neighbors think he nuts, beautiful but out of control and guess who's fault that is. The Halti collar stopped his pulling, lurching, back and forth searching for cars. I clipped his choke chain to the Halti lead so when he tries to go backward to pull it off he feels the chain and knows, (because he's really smart) that he's not going anywhere. I can finally feel good about going for a walk. Now if he would just quit barking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With 2 80+ pound Dobermans who are quite strong, walking became nearly impossible no matter how much training and loose leash walking I tried! Training classes kept recommending this collar, but I resisted because I thought it would look too much like a muzzle and scare people off. I have tried everything (except choke/pinch collars because I feel they are too cruel) and this is the only thing I have found that works! I can actually walk both dogs at the same time! At first, neither dog was very happy about putting it on but quickly got used to wearing it. Now they get very excited when I get it out because they know it means a walk and some fun! This has been a wonderful thing for all of us since now we can walk and get out of the house and I am not being drug down the street. A wonderful option if you are having difficulty with a strong puller!

My 2 Doodles were absolute opposites when on walks--one was a "bloodhound," sniffing every centimeter of our route, thus dragging behind; the other was a "sight hound," on high alert and excited to see what was around the next bend, pulling hard to get there. As a result, I have been pulled apart as we have taken walks, which has been hard on my bum knee! Enter the magical, miraculous Halti collar! The effect was instantaneous, with both dogs walking calmly by my side. I had tried pinch (pronged) collars and the GentleLeader--times two, with no effect. I cannot recommend this product highly enough for those with dogs that tend to pull or drag...and there was no resistance from the dogs once they got used to having the halter portion looped over their noses--this took only once or twice, and was eased by the use of a treat and their eagerness to start the walk!
